Anyone paint their calipers and have any tips?
So anyone with the stock SS has probably noticed that even after the first 1,000 miles their calipers look faded and look like crap. I am thinking about taking the wheels off one weekend and brush painting them with a high temp paint kit & then buying the high temp stickers after it drys.
Just curious if anyone else has done this and what kit they used, how many miles they've had it one and if it's held up. I'm wondering if those high temp stickers really stay on or if you need to buy a high-temp clear coat to put on top of them after putting the stickers on. So far I've been looking at this kit off of amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-B.../dp/B000B6AF80 Also not sure if I should go with Red like every brembo kit has or if I should try to be bold and go for yellow or blue to go with my hyperblue paint & black wheels, let me know what you guys think! |

Forgot that I had watched this a while back, thanks for reminding me!
The G2 kit looks a little better than the Dupont one (rated at 950 vice 400 for only $10 more). I'll definitely consider this one instead, just not sure if I should just stick the stickers on afterward or if I should put a clear coat on top after putting the stickers on. Quote:

A lot of people on here have used G2 (use the search function), which is more of a high temp epoxy. I did mine & put on high temp Brembo stickers bought of amazon. I'm very happy with how it came out. The G2 brake epoxy is also on amazon (& others). Comes was a 2 part mix, but the brush that comes is crap. Just go to the big box store & buy a decent one to use instead.

Thanks everyone, I think I am sold on the G2 kit and I read somewhere else to ge a different brush too, so I'll probably invest in that also.
Just torn on the color choice. I am leaning more towards yellow or red. I want it to be unique and all the 1LEs come with red Brembos so yellow would be more unique, but I almost think Red looks better because it contrasts well with the hyperblue paint on the car. Maybe I'll just draw straws... |

I have used the g2 before. I was pleased with the results. My tip is take them off the rotor to do it. It will be a lot easier to get into the nooks and crannies. If I'm not mistaken there are a few color choices if you order online but you can get it at local part stores if you don't want to wait for it.

G2 caliper paint is what I used, dont use the paint brush that came with it, the bristles started falling off after first wheel. I think if I had a different brush it would have came out better up close, but 10k miles later, it still looks better than stock.

Be aware of the temperature range when you do it also. It may have a drying issue if too cold. I did mine in the summer, let the G2 epoxy dry for a couple of days before putting on the Brembo stickers, but I did drive the vehicle the next day.
I did 3 coats, had plenty of G2 for that, & I didn't remove the calipers, but did mask off everything with blue paint masking tape. Use the supplied aerosol brake cleaner & be sure all parts are clean. G2 is thick & covers well. You will see brush marks but don't worry, they blend out during the drying process. I didn't have an issue with getting into the nooks & crannies with that method, a decent brush, & taking my time. Looks as good now as it did when just painted. This is first mod on my to do list come spring. I actually bought the G2 Red Hot but was too cold in November to apply it. Also got the decals from ebay.
