LT1 Factory Octane tune?
I have been searching everywhere to find what is the proper octane to put in the LT1 that will give it the best performance stock. I know the manual states 91 is fine. I have the choice of 91 non ethanol and 93 with ethanol. I'm not concerned about fuel economy. Does anyone know what GM used for the performance table? TIA!

Will these really make more power with the 93 in cold weather? I thought the factory timing was set for 91.. OR is it because the fuel mixture is configured for e10? If so what about 91 e10?

The ECM is centered around a stoich of 14.11 which is E10. Regardless... you want the knock resistance of 93 over 91 if you can get it. 93 won't make more power... it will just help not give some of it up to KR.

Thanks Tim. I have been running 91 non because the car sits a lot. It is in storage now so I won't see it until April. This Northeast Climate sucks. I will start running the 93 ethanol in it to help protect from any KR. Would running a higher octane say 100 be any benefit?

There is no benefit to running 100 octane fuel in an engine that doesn't require it.

Can you elaborate on this please? Just for the extra knock protection? I can get 100 unleaded at my track...

Sorry... I was making an assumption that timing would be advanced beyond stock. For a stock ECM it could slow you down.

I have confirmed personally that running race fuel on the stock program does not increase performance. I tried 105 unleaded and 93 back to back and ran identical times in the 1/4 mile. My logs showed right at 22° of timing.

So 93 is where it's at on a stock tune, unless you live in CA and get stuck with 91 lol...
