Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the 2018 Mustang was going to put DI or PI/DI in the Coyote, which will up the power a bit (and probably over the 455 in the current SS), and the 10 speed auto will be available. Plus, there are some spy shots of a camo'ed Mustang with quad tips (perhaps indicating dual mode exhaust), and I would guess that they will make the Magneride available as an option (just makes sense).

Imagine that, people get 20% off MSRP and sales rise.

This might be the end of the Mustang.

Maybe not this month. Already slower posting. But the Camaro team shouldn't be proud to be number 1 just yet. Mustang sales have dropped in half over the past few months while the Camaro sales have increased just a bit with 20% off sales to clear the HUGE inventory build up. Still low relative to Gen5.

But GM is making big money right now and doing so by lilting fleet sales and focusing on retail. And even with 20% off those are still retail sales.

Which it is and has been since it launched. GM spent the R&D dollars on the Alpha chassis years ago and got greedy on the pricing of the 6th gen. Hopefully it's a lesson learned. If history is any indication, sales will be better next year for the Camaro.

Sales don't fluctuate as much as the Mustang has the last two years when basically nothing has changed on the vehicle. The big spikes were obviously due to fleet sales. Ford backing down and finding out that retail only doesn't give them the high volume numbers.

Notice in the graph how consistent this segment is year over year and then all of a sudden - huge spikes. I bet it is not coincidental that Ford hired Mark LaNeve in January 2015. At GM he was famous for sending large numbers of vehicles to the low profit fleet customers...

Great job for getting good sales AND ATP's Gm.

Mustang is the fleet sales king. Still a nice car, but the numbers are inflated due to having the cheapest sporty convertible and pushing them hard to rental agencies.

A sizable piece of the Mustang sales decline is the "normalization" of fleet sales. Historically it has been around 25% rental but through the first half of 2016 it was north of 35% leading to over-inflated total sales numbers. October was 20% rental sales for the Mustang while Camaro...doesn't show any. Camaro says 6% rental sales for 2016 which was all first quarter. Come to think of it I haven't seen a 6th gen at a rental lot.

Performance-wise, the car is worth the asking, but for this segment it has been a more difficult pill to swallow for sure.

I'd suspect that Camaro and Mustang sales will remain pretty close over the fall/winter/spring months. But I also expect Mustang to come out on top again in sales once the 2018 model rolls out. I would also expect a bit more of a Mustang price increase than Camaro will have due to the Mustang's possible mechanical changes (10 speed auto anyone?)
This ^

Also Mustang was going to come down eventually. 3 Model years in IMO there was no way it was going to sustain the volume it did.

I think bringing back the Pinto would be a good replacement for the Mustang.
