turbo talk
i have some questions if anyone can help. i am thinking about some low mount twins and have done this type of set up on a g8.
Is there an easy place to get pressurized oil on this engine? an alternative to oil is the comp oil less turbos which need water but not oil. i have never used one of these turbos but it looks like water would be easier to get and then no return oil pump would be required. does anyone have any experience with these turbos. i have always used precision turbos and was thinking about a pair of 6266's and have no idea what a similar comp turbo would be or what it would cost. is it just coolant that runs to the heat exchanger on the side of the oil pan? any reason why you couldn't splice into this line for some water flow to the turbos? i will be running 100% on e85 and hope to push it over 1000hp some day. this will likely mean a 2nd set of port injectors and a drop in compression will likely happen before it is cranked up. do people still run intercoolers? a few years back it was all the rage to not put them on or even remove them. we ran cars with them and without them and had success either way. if anyone has any links to some before and after type of testing i would love to read up on it. agp posted in another thread they hope to have a kit in a few months. it is my experience most companys do not come close to meeting their own stated timeline. does anyone know about agp? is it likely they will really have a kit in a few months? i have very little patience but if someone is going to have a kit out this winter i would rather wait and buy that than make my own set up. |

we machined out a pressure t that goes where the oil pressure sending unit is right by the throttlebody on the engine.
Or you can get a oil filter sandwhich plate off of summit. On oil pressure sensitive engines like honda s2000 f20c this can sometimes have a slight dip in oil pressure causing you to lose vtec. I don't think it would be a problem with the lt1 though. |

If you would like to talk to some of the sponsors here though I could let it go through them or maybe they already have something ready to rock for you |

Thanks for the reply. I sent apg an email and kevin go right back to me. he said the kit release will not drag on and fully expects it to be out in a few months. He also thinks the price will be around $7k without tuning or fuel system and i would bet that is with less turbo that i will want. he said i am not the only person looking to get over 1000rwhp with one of these cars.
he suggested i get a built motor in the car while i am waiting. that does seem like a good idea BUT I really like to see how much i can do with minimal mods. i know a turbo kit is a major mod but i would have a lot of fun seeing how quick i could get it on a stock longblock in a car with just a turbo kit(fuel system+tuning) and some sticky tires. speaking of a built motor. a forged everything 416 looks sweet but going the other way what is the minimum? i am thinking drop in replacement forged pistons, mild cam with dod delete and larger fuel lobe, head studs, good valve springs, maybe cnc the stock heads since that appears to be only $700. what am i missing for a cheap build? |

I don't know what people have been doing in the corvette world but anytime you get over 1000 hp the ability of the head gasket to hold a seal against the insane combustion pressures is a pretty big issue. The LS motors had the option of a "6 bolt head" with some extra bolts to try to give you more clamp force. I have not heard of a 6 bolt block for the LT1. I know the stock block could be o-ringed but I'm not sure if that would completely cover it or not. Talk to the guys at LME and they will point you in the right direction. http://www.latemodelengines.com/
