Are we to surmise that the new differential in the SS and ZL1 will be the same? Time will tell. But I suspect GM saw reducing the weight in the differential a must.

I would like to see what happens with 1,000 launches at the strip like they did in the 2012 however.

Would be interesting to see that announced too. But, as others have stated, a reduced strength diff may not be noticeable unless you are a builder.
The heavy duty diff will come standard in the drag race edition

Couple ways to look at what the ZL1 will probably weigh.

Take a basic C7 Stingray, and compare the difference against a Z06

Or, take a CTS-V & CTS Vsport and do the same.

In either case, replace the base car with the Camaro SS and add the difference between 'base' and 'extreme'. If you really want to be accurate, do both and take the average of the two. Should be very close.

Is that a scientific formula?

In recent memory GM has not seen fit to offer "optional" HD equipment...my guess is that will not change....I am a long time watcher of GM offered additional options...FWIW...

Yep the 5th gen is a heavy beast, but try to break it. They waaaaaay overbuilt the drive train on the 5th gen ZL1, weight is the penalty, but modding headroom is over double the HP with no issues or thing breaking. My builder is at 1300 rwhp and stock drive train. Nothing has broken yet.

So what I'm trying to figure out is how anyone has read that article from Goodwood and not started a mad hunt for more information confirming the 650hp rating. As it stands I cannot find any official source to validate GM releasing official ZL1 specs, yet Al stated in that article that the numbers had been released. That being said, are we happy with 650hp/3900 lbs? If we have this info lets starting making some ridiculous speculations! I just can't wait anymore!!!!!!😭😭😭😭

650 hp at 3900 lbs will not make it a hellcat killer in a straight line, but it should be a pretty close race. It will undoubtedly do everything else better, but not the one thing that matters most to alot of us. Hopefully we'll find out sooner than later.

The ZL1 may be down 57 hp, but it's also 500 lbs lighter. So it'll be able to at minimum match the Hellcat in straight line. But I think I'll be able to beat it due to the 10 speed and better stability. Repeated launch and durability is a different issue because the Hellcat is an overbuilt beast.

Agree. People are severely underestimating this 10 speed and the capabilities... Hurry GM get us the stats!

I don't think people are so much underestimating it as they are questioning what it'll be bringing to the table performance wise. Right now, all we have is a video where we can hear the quick shifts and Al telling us that it'll be game changing. But does game changing refer to fuel economy, performance, or both? No one knows yet b/c there's no precedent for it in another car.

Anything in the 3.3-3.5 range will be expected. My mind may explode if it comes in below 3.2. That's some serious acceleration for a heavy rwd car.
