The driver mod is the most important mod in any performance car. I remember one day at a test n tune with my 2004 Mustang GT, I beat every 04-06 GTO that lined up against me. Was my car faster, hell no! but the GTO guys couldn't get off the line to save their lives!

Topic at hand, I believe the ZL1 will outperform the Hellcat in just about every measurable category.

Driver mod is very important. The ZL1 with the 10spd auto is gonna be nasty off the line at the track

What's the difference between the A8 and A10 first gear ratios?

I liken the Hellcat engine to a boob job on an otherwise dull girl. Yes, there are real advantages but so one dimensional. Talking about rear seat passenger space is like child bearing hips. WGAF

Agree. If the new ZL1 only matches the HC at the drags but can run with a GT350TP on the track its will be a huge win. Balanced brut force.

Might not matter, depending on how sophisticated traction management is. I know on the Hellcat if you have street tires you're generally better off launching in second. Less torque multiplication means the tires aren't as overwhelmed, and you're eliminating a shift.

They're different cars IMO. The Challenger is a true muscle car, the Camaro is a sport car with a V8. I have a supercharged Challenger so I'm not just talking out of my ass either. I built it very similar to a Hellcat and runs comparable times at the track (10.80s at about 130MPH) and it's a manual trans to boot. Mine's One of the top 5 fastest we've found as most folks can't cope with a 6 speed at the track.

I love my 2016 2SS, but they're completely different animals. I consider myself lucky to own both. I can tell you for sure the Challenger is a much more comfortable highway brawler, but the Camaro handles better, but not night and day better.

The 10 speed in the ZL1 will be interesting, but I worry it'll always be hunting for the right gear. Even the 8 speed seems like a lot to me.

I'd buy a Hellcat in a minute, but I'm married to my Challenger with all the work I've put in to it. Has pricing been released on the ZL1? I was VERY disappointed when Dodge raised the price of the Hellcat nearly $10K from 2015 to 2016. Back in 2015 it was a steal at $58K for the performance you got.

This is probably one of the BEST posts in this entire thread. Thank you for posting!

Someone misinformed you on the price increase. It went up $4,200 and that included the formerly optional Laguna leather and premium stereo with nav being made standard -- those previously cost $2,500. So the actual price bump was closer to $1,700 once you take out the cost of the options that were made standard.

I stand corrected. I would consider the options a wash, who orders NAV anymore, and while the Laguna leather is nice, it's not an option I would have ticked for the price. 2015 was the best bang for the buck hands down. It's still a nice car, just not the steal it was for dollar per performance in 2015. I speculated a $70K price tag in 2015 and was shocked when it launched for about $58K. I actually lost a bet on ModernMoparForum with that deal LOL

Dodge screwed the pooch, and it's customers and dealers, in 2015 by not delivering all orders placed. I personally had a friend order 3 Hellcat Challengers in 2015 and got zip. Deposits were refunded a year later, interest anyone?? He did get a certificate for some off a 2016 which he ordered and now has possession of.

I'm real curious how Chevy prices this ZL1. It's a great time to be a car enthusiast, I just wonder how long until Uncle Sam steps in and squashes the performance market again.

They already have with CAFE standards and emissions regulations...and this is what we're getting....very high performance...very low volume (relative to history)....very expensive cars. That trend will continue to 2025 when the most extreme CAFE standards are due to kick in.

I wouldn't advise any one to "get em while you can", so much as "save every penny you own"....the days of the $100,000 Camaro are around the corner...

Haha, reminds me of the rumors before the Hellcat was released. I believe the insane guessing ranged up to about $90K.

Give it 10 years or so...CAFE, with the help of inflation will send the highest performing variants of these cars into that range. I certainly don't think we'll see a Gen 6 at those prices...but perhaps a Gen 7, or 8....
