could be a GPS for auto insurance tracking. I've been shopping for insurance and found progressive offers a device called Snapshot very similar to this.

Good to hear. This is good progress. Sounds like you're half way there.

I would really like to know why dealers think they can or should do this on brand new $40k Camaros without asking or trying to sell it to the customer first. I get that every dealer wants to sell you a boatload of aftermarket garbage from warranties to alarms to clear coat to GPS and whatever else. But don't automatically install one on every car. Especially something where they screw holes into any component that is not meant to have screw holes! All it does is increase the likelyhood of a bad survey!

They said they install it in all of their cars. And I believe they use it for their own on-lot security. I can only imagine what a Corvette owner would think about that.

It's a government tracking device. Do you notice a black Suburban following you around?

It's not in my contract. First thing I checked, but I'll double check it to be sure.

Got a call back today. GM said there was a disclaimer about it and said they wouldn't replace the panel. The panel costs $30. I said that wasn't acceptable. Waiting to hear back.

I personally would not want someone screwing around with removing electronics, especially if they are being forced to do so for free. I would fix that myself and try to get reimbursed for the panel and any other hardware needed to get the job done.

If there's no disclaimer in your contract tell him to pound salt and replace the panel.

I double checked and I see nothing acknowledging the installation of the equipment.

It's part of the new automatic braking system that all cars will have by 2022. The technology was obtained on July 4, 1996 as part of a mission lead by Captain Steven Hiller and David Levinson.
