I've never read such but you would think they keep a little more wiggle room in inventory on parts from overseas just to account for customs holdups and the like? Anyone know how many days of production parts they try to keep on hand?

I got it the second I read it. I guess it may also depend on how big you are into sports.

International suppliers and such are the norm these days.
Ever wonder why you don't see any Sterling Grey 2013+ Mustang's? It's because early in the 2012 MY run, the 2011 Japanese earthquake happened and essentially destroyed the facility that was used to produce that particular color, amongst others. These things happen. |

Container boats make milk runs nowadays, sometimes stopping for days to wait for their turn at the terminal or simply for more cans to increase their profit. Bad weather can slow them down for hours, days, or even a week or more on long trips such as China to LA. Once the goods do reach port customs is another variable. That's before you even start the rail, trucking, and warehouse shell game that begins when the goods reach these shores. I'm pretty sure they have some days of inventory on the ground here, it's how its done because it's necessary to account for the variables in transport. I wouldn't expect it to be too much because production parts or other consumable items are usually warehoused in facilities that are just large enough to carry them through the variables of transport with the transport itself being part of the calculated storage needs of the product. |

This article from Autoblog has the correct info as far as what vehicle's are effected. Camaro is not one. Or should not be.

C&D is wrong , so are you , and the reason is that the plants are closing for parts shortage , not because the said plants have any problems other that the supplies will be affected , so , if the Camaro get parts from those suppliers located in the area affected by the quake in Japan , then yes , the Camaro will be affected regardless where it it put together

At plants in CA past and present ( tesla ) for one , they get parts from southern call shipped in containers , sometimes the traffic on I5 gets so bad , accidents or just bad weather, and the plant slows down , just like when Toyota /GM had their operations in the same place a while back |

Definitely rough on those who depend on hourly wages. Hopefully nobody loses their jobs but just gets furloughed for the duration. Hopefully GM saying it won't hurt production numbers means plenty of overtime opportunities to make up the lost income for them.
