Bought an early C7 with the 6 speed auto...Loved the car and the trans fit it's nature perfectly (as opposed to the clunky 7 speed). My Camaro is an M6...Which also fits the car's nature perfectly. One of the nicest shifting transmissions I've ever owned...
Happy with my choice!

No regrets with the A8, and that's coming from a manual GTO and G8 GXP. Putting the A8 in manual mode (track) with the Vitesse throttle controller set on 6 and it is amazing!

The only transmission I ever regretted was an auto so it's just not an option for me anymore. I still remember my MKV GTI that I bought with DSG because it was the newest fanciest fastest auto out there. Sold the car in like less than 2 years because although it was lighting fast and buttery smooth... it just wasnt the same as shifting.
Now with the rev match its even better. Although I don't turn it on much in day to day driving, when I take this bad boy to the track it's going to be great. |

I can't speak for the 6th Gen but I had a 2012 SS auto, and traded it from my ZL1 M6 and it was such a big difference. I would never buy another automatic performance car again, it just ruins the experience. Shifting through gears and revving up is so much fun, no regrets!!
The truth is manual is dieing and its kind of sad, I suggest everyone who wants to get a automatic to at least learn manual and then test drive a manual.

I usually am partial to manuals but bought the A8 and love it! It isn't your run of the mill automatic though. It pulls hard, shifts fast, and playing with the paddle shifters is a blast. The auto is slightly faster also.

I don't ever drive my Porsche without rev match being on. Ps. Looking at the 2016 Camaro as a year round car. |

This ^^^^ right here. Always was partial to standard transmission....not after having experienced this Auto 8 in the SS....a superb transsmission perfectly mated to the powerband of the motor

I traded my 2012 Corvette Grand Sport with an M6 trans for the SS with A8, and I was a little concerned that I might miss the manual, but I don't.
If the A8 were an old school slow mow shifter like they used to be I couldn't have done it, but the 8 speed auto is a joy for most of the driving I do. Besides, this is my wife's daily driver, and even though she's good with a clutch, the auto is just better for our use. Only time I miss the stick is when I want to wind her out a bit in 1st, and the car wants to be in 3rd before I cross the intersection! Not a big deal cuz I can just slide the stick over to manual mode and get what I want. |

Autos are fast and easy (and that's what some people like
) but become outdated quickly.. the 8AT has barely been out and it's already being superseded. A good shifting manual is timeless.. just my 2 cents.

I bought the A8 because the car came in before the 6M I ordered and the dealer had no problem with me purchasing the 48K car versus the 44K car I ordered. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by how well the automatic functions. The quickness of the shifts is shockingly fast. Still, I miss the shifting and clutching...paddles or shifter gear changes just aren't the same. All said I don't have regrets about the transmission, but next time it will probably be a stick I purchase.
