I have a valentine one hard wired into mine. Super easy to do on this car BTW. I love it but I haven't had it updated since I bought it in 2002! So I'm sure I'm missing a few things. Now that they want like $300 just to update it, I'm considering switching to the escort 360 as it has a lot of nice features as well, I'm just not sure yet. The only times I've gotten a ticket since I got the Valentine 1 way back have been due to cops using instant on which I know the V1 update includes some sort of POP feature to try and help with that.

You should be happy that the cop was keeping you safe.
No, wait... If they cared about safety they wouldn't be hiding. Thanks for your contribution to their next fleet of brand new cars and Assault Vehicles. |

Wife and I have had Escort 9500ix detectors for several years. Love the GPS feature that warns of red light and speed cameras.

I think I'll get the 360... Again I'm not a constant speeder, but my previous car had 96 brand new... Until I get used to the fact that I barely push the pedal and. Doing 50, I wanna be safe.. I do NOT speed on highways besides the allotted threshold on Florida highways.. So that time won't be an issue.
Thanks everyone. |

I had a K40 in my previous car, they are not cheap but I saved a TON of money on tickets. The 360 protection it gives you is unparalleled imo.

Now that the 360 offers the arrows, V1 is pretty obsolete. Even some websites (just google "Top 10 Radar Detectors") that have reviews don't even have V1 in the Top 10. The things you should look for, right now, are: 1. Detection Ability (most of the name brands have good detection these days). 2. Some kind of DSP to weed out false alarms. 3. Some kind of GPS / Crows-Source ability to weed out even more false alarms and give you pre-warning for live alerts. Escort Max, Escort Max 2 ad Escort Max 360 all do that very well. I love my Max 2 so much and am looking forward to the 360.

I've used the old Escort Passports for many years. I compared it to the V1 (rode with both to test), both did about the same...I chose the Escort because the V1 looked outdated and bulky. I only got pulled over once in the 11+ years of using it..and that's because I was driving on a long stretch of hilly road with no other cars in sight. It's always best to follow someone...but beware of laser...

I have heard that cops give you the max ticket if he catches you and you have a radar detector. That would be bad. I have the 8500 X50 and it's always been pretty good, but the police are using the instant on radar guns these days and a detector will only detect when the gun is on. By that time, you're already busted. The moral to that story is, let someone else be a fast guy in front of you...then you'll detect when the cop zaps him...lol.

The Escort phone app is really incredible to link everyone's radar detectors together. You can look up a head on the road and see if anyone has reported a cop sighting and how long ago it was reported. The cord has a report button that if your detector goes off and there is actually a cop you hit the report button and it makes it on the map for everyone to see. There is a small yearly service fee but I think it is most definitely worth it. Just my $0.02.

I use Escort 9500ix in three different vehicles. Unless you want the arrows or the color display of the Max series the 9500ix will do everything at a less expensive price.
As has been said elsewhere in this thread radar detectors are not magic talismans, the driver must learn/know how to use the device effectively.

I'm 100% PRO police, and breaking the law is breaking the law... But just how it happened to me this weekend, I rather be safe than sorry... Going 50 VS 40 is almost not noticeable now days. I got pulled over for doing about 50 in just that area and I told the cop bluntly, "this is a rental, my DD had 95 HP to the wheels when I bought it 8 years ago.. I have no idea what speed is in this car".. He just laughed and let me off with a warning. But I was 100% in the wrong and would have taken the ticket with zero arguments. |

Been using Escort 9500ix for years, I had 2 of them. 1 still have, the other I sold as I upgraded to the Max360. I couldn't tell you for years how many times the 9500ix has saved my ass. There are and will always be situations where the radar detector just won't be able to save you but 99% of the time it will. I have only gotten pulled over twice in 6 years of running the detector dedicated (used to only use it for road trips).
The main comparison is always escort vs valentine. Both have die hard followers but I have used both the 9500ix and valentine. Arrow are nice, sure but GPS > Arrows. GPS saves locations, if people have a GPS escort, you are all connected via the system just like drones are. So if there is a person ahead of you who has it, you will get their hit as well which adds hell of a lot more of a safety buffer. False alarms are non-existent in both systems really. But now that the Max360 is out... And has arrows PLUS gps, Valentines are completely outclasses and outgunned. Max360 is 9500ix on crack. I am extremely shocked with it's abilities, it is a bit overkill as well. 9500ix will pick up KA around 1.5 miles where as the Max360 is double sitting at 3 miles on straights of course. But as you can imagine, radar detection capabilities and technology has advanced immensely. If you want the best bang for your buck, stick with the 9500ix and you will NOT be disappointed. You can get em for 350 instead of 600+ like the max360. But max360 is an extremely well done product, so if you want to spend the money? Go for it. If not, 9500ix is still damn good! Here are some pictures (towards the bottom) of my max360 setup with blendmount. I did mess around with the blendmount for radar detector placement, it looks much better and flush with the mirror now than it does in those pictures. I took those pics when I first installed it without any altering. I did take some pictures of the final setup but been too busy and lazy to post em up lol. http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showpo...5&postcount=33 |
