Can NPP mufflers be installed after purchase

Hello. Former Cadillac guy here.
I purchased a 2016 2SS Camaro. It has practically every available option except the NPP mufflers (which are advertised as a dealer installed option on Chevy’s website). The dealer told me they could be installed so I bought the car and the dealer ordered a set. When they arrived someone at the dealership must have done some research and discovered there was an issue. They advised me that they could not install the mufflers because there was no computer upgrade available “at the present time”. They say that GM has advised them that a computer upgrade will be available in the future. Is this a load of BS? I am really really pissed at this point. Had I known this issue existed I would’ve ordered a car with the mufflers.

Today I received an email advising that I can bring the car in to have MyLink upgraded to function with android auto. So obviously the system can be updated.

Thanks for any input.

I thought I heard/seen somewhere that the npp had to be installed when building the car and could not be added later. Might be for the very reason you mentioned.

Npp is definitely not dealer installed. It is factory installed. The performance exhaust is dealer installed. But that is a different system.
A mylink update is updating a different part of the system than what would need to be updated for npp though it's probably possible. But npp will never be a dealer installed option anyway Your dealer was wrong. I wish you would have checked with us on the forum first
The only thing I can find on the website is here http://www.chevrolet.com/camaro-spor...cessories.html and that's for the performance exhaust which is different. I see no mention of where they state npp is dealer installed.

Yes indeed! I wish I had checked here first. But, looking at the Chevrolet website it does list it as a dealer installed option so when the dealer told me they could install it I took them at their word. I'm going to let them know how upset I am about this and see if they're willing to work with me on some sort of a compromise. Maybe the performance exhaust at a discount. Thanks for the info.

My .02 is wait until aftermarket exhaust kits start to drop and buy one of those. The NPP exhaust adds no power, just sound. If you wait you might end up spending around the same or a little more AND pick up a few ponies in the process. And never trust what your dealership says, 99.9% of the time they are full of shit.

If it is anything like the 5th Gen NPP Hook up wise you should be able to. I had friends buy theirs after the fact. The only thing is they had to find a vacuum line to use to make the flaps open and close. Might be different in the 6th Gen and might be more controlled by the computer. I bought the NPP but now wish I hadn't! Heavy trash can in the back unlike the 5th Gen NPP. I want to take mine off and install the Borla NPP setup when they come out. Sounds so much better for a little more money. Just feel like I wasted $900.00

At least you'll still end up with the NPP set up. I can never get the control that NPP gives you.. I'm getting more and more pissed off at my dealer every minute.

Your right! I forgot about the different drive modes. I pulled fuse 51 So mine stay open all the time now. Sounds so much better!! Sorry to hear that your dealership done that to you.

Hi guys, just found this thread, I got a 17 SS with single exhaust and want to add NPP, a friend of mine is selling his, but not sure if it will be a direct install or I will need something else to make it work. I know I need to change the rear facial to fit the dual tips, but other than that don't know, if you have any info please share.

As said above it won't work. You will need to wire your own electrical system in order to activate the flappers.

Follow the advices above. Get an aftermarket kit.

Check on the QTP aftermarket exhaust. You will get the exact control that the NPP provides and you will have a more aggressive sound in “wild”mode. I am seriously considering making that move myself even though I already bought an aftermarket exhaust.
