With A8 transmissions you don't need more than 3.07 gears to pull like a lunatic, depending on the gearing ratios in the A10 you might not need more than 2.66's!

If anyone wants to spend the time marking data down...the video on Chevrolet's ZL1 launch page shows telemetry data for a ZL1 w/A10 going around a section of the Milford Road Course. You can see gear selection, and speeds.

More than likely, with the track-oriented gearing the manual transmission will not escape the GG tax...no idea if the 10 speed will make a big enough difference to escape it.

I agree and think gearing will have everything to do with GG Tax.

Going back to 2005 and the introduction of the 2006 Z06, it was manual-only in spec and shaved options, including Constar, due to weight. It barely made it under the threshold.

So knowing the las gen ZL1 had GG, it could affect the next.
Gearing will make the difference, and overall weight, which moved in the right direction on the 2017

Lets give GM some credit here.
We know they (with ford) developed the 10spd mainly for the CAFE truck/suv hurdle.
I would think that in a "lighter" ZL1, it could escape gg tax.

BTW, the SS sedan has the old 6spd auto.

My biggest problem with this car is that front cluster that blocks your front visibility. I sat in 2016 SS, and I couldn't see the front of the car, what to speak of the road and I'm 5.7. I raised the seat high enough to the the front and by then my head is a bout 1 inch from hitting the roof, which in a small bump you can easily injure your neck. This is the only thing that kills it for me, because I can't see where the front of the car is.

Why do you need to see the front of your car?

I've owned at least 10 cars and NONE of them could I see the front. However, you can easily see what is in front of the car. I guess Im at a loss for what seeing the front of the hood would do.

On the Camaro you look at the FENDERS to tell where the front of the car is. You can easily gage (GM fans will get that) how far away from things you are. Plus, the Camaro isn't really a long car at all so you wont have trouble fitting in spots.

If you have ever owned or driven European cars (Germans, English, Italian and even Japanese cars), You have perfect view of all the corners and most importantly, the front and the hood doesn't even block you. When making quick turns, you see exactly where you're pointing at.
In 2016 Camaro, I loose that confidence being in full control of the car.
Go seat in a BMW or Audi or WRX or VW and see how much front (side) visibility you got. Driving a car, it's not all about straight line drag racing.

I will reverse your logic. If you had driven cars that allowed you a great POV, then you wouldn't compromise seating in a black box. For $65K, I don't want to adopt to poor visibility. Good visibility give you quicker response time. I've been driving for over 40 years and I know what I look for in a car.
