Potentially Looking at 2016 Camaro 1LT (4 Cylinder Turbo)

Hi all, I was recently at our local Chevy dealership and had a chance to sit in the new 2016 Camaro. Gee, what a sexy car !

I currently have a 2014 Accord Sedan with 6MT that I use as a daily and am contemplating trading it in on a new 2016 Camaro 1LT with 4 cylinder engine and 6 speed manual transmission. Only options I'd add is the RS package (20" wheels, HID's) and the tech package (8" Mylink Radio). Did not get a chance to drive it yet.

Coming from a completely different car, Im looking to get into something fun to drive and exciting. The way I priced out the car, it is coming out to under $30K, which I think is doable and within my budget. Of course, I'd love to have an 8 cylinder SS but its just not in my budget.

Can anyone tell me what the pitfalls of the 4 cylinder Turbo is? I understand its no rocket, but close to 300HP and 300lbs of torque should be really fun, especially in a rear wheel drive car. This car would strictly be used as a daily to commute to my bus/train (a few miles) and "fun" car on the weekends. We also have a 2015 Equinox for family use and extended/long trips.

Anyhow, would love to hear the feedback on this car. Anything wrong with these cars? What do you hate/love?

Finally, I am considering leasing this car. Does anyone know if there are any incentives going on with Chevy? Lease conquest, bonus rebate? How much can I expect the dealer to take off MSRP prior to applying the rebates? Given the current lease interest rates and residuals, it would make for a decent payment on such a sporty car.

Only consideration is Winter weather and RWD. With a set of good snow tires and maybe a little bit of weight in the trunk, it will be fine. But FWD is typically easier to drive and not get stuck in the snow. I've driven two V8 cars (G8 and GTO) through many North Central PA and South West NY Winters, and I feel comfortable with them (I actually prefer RWD to FWD), but it is different.

Go over to YouTube and watch some drive videos and reviews which are just starting to hit the net. Everything I've seen on the turbo has been very positive.

I have a V6 with those same options, its great and I bet the turbo 4 will be just as good, just different.

Its not gonna be a straight line monster but it'll still be pretty quick and a whole lot of fun in the corners.

My V6 with those options was around 33k msrp, I got it for 25k but thats GM employee pricing.

the T4 I bet will be great for tuning out some extra power and cross that 300HP mark with ease, at the expense of voiding your warranty.

but if you're not looking to do any tuning, I am pretty sure the T4 will still be a lot of fun to drive. if I had the money, I would get one to sit by my ss for my wife and I to have some fun in.

It's a great choice! A little bit of turbo lag right after you hit the throttle, but nothing stopping you from wringing the engine out!

It handles great! (Should feel much tighter and more "connected" with the road than your Accord.

The car, even with 20" wheels, comes with All Season tires, but they are a bit aggressive which is great for stick and handling...but you may want to take it easy when the snow falls, until you're used to how it takes to the slick stuff.

Also, the clutch pedal is a bit on the squishy side, but I'm not sure how it will compare to the clutch in your Accord.

Otherwise, it's a wonderfully fun car to drive - I'd highly recommend it!

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'll have to wait and see if any of the tri-state Chevy dealers have any 4 cylinders with 6MT in stock. I believe they're just beginning to trickle into the dealerships. I have to get in and just drive one.

Again, I wouldnt be auto-x'ing this car or tracking it, but I'd love to drive it "enthusiastically" thru the back roads, etc. Wondering how much the dealers are willing to come down off MSRP, as well.

Anyone have feedback on the fit and finish inside? Any rattles while driving or other nuisances, like wind noise or such, etc?

One last point, would it be possible for a 6 year old and 4 year old to sit in the back? Like I mentioned in my earlier post, my wife and I also have a 2015 Equinox SUV, so we would primarily use that on the weekends and on trips, but Im wondering if the kiddies could squeeze into the back seats if I decide to take a trip in the Camaro to the inlaws/parents?

Contact Becky @ Rodgers Chevrolet. She is in MI but I can tell you that it'll be worth traveling for

Myself coming from 2.0T vehicles (2 evo x's both 400+ to the wheels at one point in time), I can tell you that they are VERY fun vehicles to drive. I would take a gen6 camaro over my evos any day. If you are looking into just DDing, for the price and what you get out of the car, nothing else will beat it. You will still have hell of a lot more fun with it. While I do not have ANY experience driving the gen6 2.0T, I can tell you that by owning the gen6 2SS, gen6 camaros are just AMAZING.

I won't even go into the endless possibilities of "modding" the 2.0T to make it bonkers or just add a little bit more power to it, the power to weight ratio on the 2.0T is great, bone stock.

Since the 2.0T doesn't really exists, we only have youtube videos of press (like Mr. Wyndham) who had first hand experience with the car itself. I cannot say it will have this or that over my 2SS but I can tell you that it would be a wise choice for you to upgrade to an RS w/ tech pack.

M6 however, I can speak for. It is a fantastic transmisision. I personally think it could use stiffer lower housing bushings to eliminate the non-needed wobble that it has (not too bad, I am just a bit more strict and performance minded so I want polyurethane bushings), the throw distance is something I can live with (I've ALWAYS upgraded to a short throw with polyurethane bushings so not wanting it on this car says a lot).

As for the space, I believe it shares the same dimensions as the LT and SS. Front's are uber comfortable (I am 6'2 and 260 lbs, I CAN drive it comfortable WITH my motorcycle helmet on! My father in law who is 6'4 almost 6'5 and 280 lbs can drive my car very comfortably as well). Now the back seats... They are "suodo" backseats for insurance purposes... I think your 6 and 4 year old might fit in there but it all depends on the leg room which is NON-EXISTENT in the back. So basically, your 4 year old (probably) and 6 year old (MIGHT) fit and be comfortable in the back.

I have a 16 LT 6cyl, A8, RS package, technology package, and sunroof. I had 4 snow tires put on it and it handled great in the little bit of snow we did get this year.
Its my daily driver and I drive 20 miles each way to work over winding (paved) back roads through the hills. I consider myself lucky to have the commute I do to drive such a fun car
I think you should be fine with the Turbo 4, seems like a great engine for a daily driver. I would have considered it myself, however I could wait any longer to get behind the wheel of the new Camaro.
As far as back seating goes my 7 year old niece has sat in back seat with no problem. I did have to move the seat ahead a little to give her more leg room but it didn't make it uncomfortable for myself by any means.

But will the engine die off quicker than the V6? Depending on what you read, this is supposedly typical with T4's.

1LT is having a national lease deal right now. Do it. Seriously. You'll be happy.
