I prefer manual in performance cars. It really does add another dimension to the driving experience.

So instead of just ignoring the thread that clearly ticks some people off they choose to take the time to actually reply to it so they can complain? Man tough crowd around here. I'm new to the forum and even I know you can just simply not click on the thread.

you guys act like you were never new to forums, give the guy a break. plus a lot of the threads of before were made when not many had the car in their possession to give a hands on opinion.
that being said, for once, you cant go wrong with either tranny. if you enjoy shifting yourself, you will be fine with either being that the A8 now has the ability to shift sequentially with the shifter itself, not just with the paddles, a feature not many people know about yet but definitely worth bringing up when debating on which to get. the .3 second difference isn't worth basing your decision on tho, as you most likely wont feel the difference. also, how's your left leg? if its feeling lazy, go with the A8. antsy? put it to work with the M6. you will love both trannies

For everyone used to the YouTube comments way of posting online, welcome to Camaro5, and Camaro6...where we don't jump down each other's throats for silly things. Especially not new members who may be unfamiliar with the search feature. Thank you!! ![]() I prefer manual transmissions. Simply because I like the engaged driving feel it gives me. That said - the new automatics are really, really, really nice..... |

I'm really on the line with this one. I've owned 2 manual Wranglers including my current, and one auto sports car. The manual wranglers were the wrong choice, but so was the auto Trans Am. I think I'm just doing this backwards... auto Jeeps and manual sports cars!
That being said, honestly I will probably go with the manual purely because it's cheaper and keeps people from asking to drive my car. |

I had originally ordered a 6m only because I didn't think I could afford the extra money for the auto. Plus, the manual makes it a much more engaging and in some ways enjoyable driving experience. When that purchase failed, I found some extra money for down payment and bought the 8A. That decision was the right one, but I find I miss my part in making the decisions of when to shift and when not. Plus the deceleration sound is awesome with a manual. Just sayin'.

Manual all the way, Driver engagement and feel is tits.
When you heal toe downshift into a corner, that feel you get when you do it.... an automatic will never match that. |

Did you have any issues adjusting from the auto to manual? I haven't driven a manual in many years (12+ years), and only then it was for a brief moment. I heard that the M6 is pretty forgiving.

I find this interesting. The Mrs. and I have always driven manual vehicles. When I started my vehicle search I really liked the 6G Mustang and tried my damndest to get a GT350 without paying ADM. I didn't start looking at Camaros until late in my search and I wasn't a big fan of the 5G manual. The shifts were much longer and felt less precise than the mustangs I had driven (obviously personal preference, YMMV). I didn't really want to drive the 6G on the lot because it had the A8 transmission. After sitting in it and starting it up the car just felt right, so I gave it a drive.
Spinning the rear tires out of the parking lot installed a perma grin on my face. I took the car home overnight and the Mrs. initially lambasted me for bringing home an A8... until she drove it. She quickly changed her tune as well. I then started reading about the transmission. The new 8L45 shares a lot with the 8L90 that finds itself in the C7, ATS-V, and CTS-V. I've spent some time on the track with a C7 sporting the 8L90. It runs the track better than I do. We also all know the A8 is faster in a straight line. For ME the A8 made a lot of sense. That's why I brought that Camaro home to stay! |

Seriously the arrogance of "real" sports cars (or muscle cars) are manual and automatics are for girls screams of insecurity. Get what you want and leave at that.

I see the .3 to 60 MPH more due to the auto's super steep first gear, I feel that given a set of long tubes, MSD intake and a tune will go a LONG way in getting the M6 to do that long pull through first gear all the way to 54 MPH.. at 60 MPH the M6 is at 4750 RPM while the A8 is at 6000. At then end of the 1/4 the M6 is generally trapping higher... Long story short the M6 does NOT have an optimal off line to 60MPH ratio or spread. The 1/4 the A8 is at the very top of 4th gear at 6500 while the M6 is really off the power band at 5250. We should see the a8 having a hard time trapping higher as it is a shift at 114 MPH, the M6 has plenty of room and could use anything that helps broaden the torque. Maybe a set of 4.10 would just about fix it all. dunno but the m6 would be close to its peak HP thru the traps (5800 RPM) and a far more palatable 5100 RPM at 60 MPH. I'm sure time will tell. From a 43 MPH roll the M6 would be 5250rpm with a 9.9 gear ratio and the A8 would be at 4250rpm in second pulling a 8.22 gear ratio, we know which one is faster then? I do feel the M6 feels just about right for the autoX... we will know soon enough.
