Convertibles in the snow question

Just had a random thought here, I ordered my Convertible and although I should have it by the time I won't have to worry about snow for a while, I was wondering if leaving the car out during a snow storm would cause any issues with the roof. In NY we can get some heavy snowstorms and I don't not have a garage to store my car. This could be a very stupid question but I figure I ask if anyone had experienced this?

I'd probably put an outdoor car cover on it, to keep the snow/ice from clogging drain channels

Or just drive it fast and blow it off.

Or if someone is tailgating you in the snow pop the inside of the roof with your palm and all the snow will fly onto the hood of the tail gater.

(not that I have ever done that before)

I know you were kidding (well I hope) but did you guys know the top wont work in temperatures 32 degrees and under? Not that anyone would ever want to but wondering why Chevy did this?Could it be the top could be damaged in colder weather?

I would venture a guess that it's probably due to the fabric itself becoming a bit stiff in the cold making it a bit harder to fold it as the top retracts plus the added stiffness of the folding mechanism itself. Add it all together and maybe it would be just a bit too much load on the retracting motor to ensure it works reliably at lower temps.
???

Don't forget, the 16's top mechanism is more complex that the 5th gens with the added mechanism needed to move the hard tonneau cover open and closed.

Plus, just how many people would really WANT to put the top down when it's that cold?? Heater blower on high and heated seats only go so far.

I had the top down on my 2011 2SS/RS convertible when the temps started dropping as the sun went down, and as the temps hit 43, my hands were turning white.

A limit of 4o degrees is just fine with me.

I think the lowest temp when I had the top down on my ZL1 was 51.

Any risk of frozen water (aka ICE) would be a good reason to restrict usage of the convertible top...the indexing windows don't like ice, either...but not much you can do there.

Imagine a small motor trying to life the top panel and can't because it's frozen over....of the hinges and gears trying to spin while frosted over. Or the fabric of the top being pushed and moved around while there's ice frozen to the fibers...

ALacorte515 - I'd - like others have suggested - put a cover on it if you're expecting some snowy/sleety weather...and just brush it off when it gets heavy. It should be just fine...the car underwent winter-weather testing to make sure of it.

I have driven my Jeep, top off, doors off in 36F looking at Chrismas lights around the neighborhood.
