Texting without Apple Car Play?

Does anyone know if this is possible.

It shows theirs an inbox but doesnt allow you to do anything with it.

I would prefer not to use apple car play because i dont want it plugged in the entire time.

Anyone know another way to do this?

Apple Play dominates the phone connection. I use an old iPhone5 for the music files but have an Android phone..cannot use Android Bluetooth with iPhone even plugged in..frustrating! C'mon Android Auto..sooner than later..

I turned off apple play for this reason... I use an old iphone for my music, and my current iphone via bluetooth for phone calls... had to turn off apple play so the car would know which phone was the one to use for music... I dont like apple play anyways honestly.. I dont like how what you do via the car also takes over the phone.. for example, if I have my GPS open on my phone and i'm watching the screen... if I go to listen to my texts via apple play it takes down my gps and pulls up the messaging app.. i feel like that should only be done via the car and not on the actual phone but whatever.. big annoyance to me so I turned it off..

Android Auto should be comming out for the Gen6 in March, wish it was OTA vs taking it to the dealer though.
