Would you turn your nose up at a car that can consistently pull in excess of 1.2 lateral g during a track day session, even on tires that were/are at least ten whole sessions past their prime? One that has impressed instructors with its composure? One that with minimal mods lets a pretty new-to-tracking driver essentially match the lap times put down by a couple of name-brand drivers back around September 2009 when Automobile magazine ran their head to head? Look no further than my sig.

And the interior...my brother still has a 2007...good Lord, it made my old Cobalt look luxurious.
This gets old, too. Truth be told, I didn't buy my '08 for its interior (it's fine as far as I'm concerned, well, at least it is after scuffing the bright bezel trim down to satin-y to kill sunlight reflections) or for the available features. Would buy a car with even less content today if I could, because I'd be specifically looking to track it.

I'm sure that I would have driven an SS Camaro had it been available a couple of years sooner. Certainly if it had been in 1LE trim at that time. Right now, I think the GT350 with the Track Pack option and a lightly optioned 6th gen 1LE are the direct competitors, so that's the head to head I want to see. With de-emphasis on things like features or styling.

I honestly don't see myself jumping to WOT in a GT350 at only 2500 or 3000 rpm. If it's going to be worth the trouble, I'll be a gear or two lower with about 5000 showing and over 3000 left. Most times it wouldn't be, and I'm not going to play the aging gunfighter who has no choice but to answer every challenge thrown at him until he loses everything.

Never claimed to be unbiased. I'm just repeating what I've been told by someone I trust.

You keep mentioning the track key, guess you forgot (or didn't know) GM
started that whole "gimmicky" key thing with the ZR-1 in 1989...
I'm not attacking it as a gimmick because it was Ford...I'm attacking it as a gimmick...period. If Chevy did it with the ZR-1 in 1989, then that was a gimmick, too. But you're right - no I didn't know that.

Then you bring up interiors, nobody talking about interiors should ever, ever bring it up in regards to the 5th gen Camaro. Which quite possibly had one of the worst interiors in recent GM memory, and this is a well known fact. The main reason I sold my 5th gen was the Rubbermaid interior. By 2010 the Mustangs interior was totally redone and lightyears better (and reviewed better) then the 5th gen. And while before that it wasn't so great, there also was no Camaro...
Hardly the worst interior ever done by GM. I quite liked it, actually. Too much plastic, yes....in fact: hell yes. But I also never owned a 2010/11 Camaro. Been familiar with the refreshed version in both cars I owned.

You neglected to say when the 5th gen came out Ford had the Coyote ready for sale in mid 2010. Anybody that denies the validity of these engines features is living under a rock.
You confuse my intent. I never said it was bad...I just said it was outdated compared to some of the segments current offerings. It's not..."special", anymore. And when it was released, it didn't do anything uniquely impressive for the time, it was solidly on-par with its competition. If I recall, it has a pretty high redline...

I am one of the few not blinded by brand favoritism, as I've owned three Camaros and three Mustangs, and will be getting a 6th gen 1LE. You need to try to broaden your horizons and listen to different people, as your statements are well, kinda wack lol.

Just sayin'
You say "blind" like I'm somehow disabled compared to people who own/like multiple brands. Quite the contrary!! I'm very comfortable and extremely happy being brand loyalty.I don't consider myself anymore "right", or better than you...and I should hope that that's not what your insinuating in reverse with that last comment.

That is the purpose of what we do, here, right? Pleasure? Automotive enjoyment? If that is the case...then I consider myself quite successful at the task!

EDIT: I just noticed that you've joined in August of '15. So you don't know me very well, yet....I assure you - I'm being far more of a sarcastic pain in the rear than I usually am. If I were speaking with you in person at a CamaroFest, for instance - I'd tell you that I find the concept of the GT350R very impressive, and I'm glad such a beast came out of Dearborn, and not Munich, or Toyota city. But I'm disappointed with Ford's handling of the non-R version in terms of price and equipment...and I think there are some very solid reasons why the 1SS/1LE is going to be faster. I'd then ask you to show me all about your car with genuine interest. :thumbsup.

But then we couldn't have had this little exchange, could we?

First off, "engines that don't excel"? Umm, the Coyote is an awesome engine, then you say the "Boss 302 was a gimickey joke"? It just showed how far behind GM was at that time in chassis engineering on the Camaro and made them get their shit together and make the 1LE and Z28. I get this is a Camaro site, but come on.

Overall the '11-'14 Mustang GT was a much better car then the 5th gen Camaro SS, and I owned both. Gotta give credit where credit is due.

Now, when it comes to the new cars, the tables have turned completely...
Yeah he's delusional. Sorry bro.

Mr. Wyndham, any chance that the new 1LE will show up at the Daytona 500?

Not likely, but I can certainly ask when we see it.

I'm near Chicago so I'm heading down to take some pictures of my own.

I'm guessing that the Chevy CAI is going to be part of the 1LE with a rated power increase from the tune that supposedly comes with it. I want it put on mine before delivery sometime in March.

Chevy's media time is listed as Feb 12 at 10:30 am. Link below with streaming info. No mention of 1LE

$56 for how I want my 350 built...or a 17 1LE with 70 less hp for the same price? GM better step up the tuning/weight/performance of the LT4 if they want my bones.
"
Please, go on and tell me how a fully loaded 2SS isn't close in tech to a GT350 with just a track package.. No point discussing track performance because neither of us know what the 1LE will be capable of, but I'd bet anything it will be closer than what the Ford boys would like.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have to agree with this I think that 49k is outrageous for a SS, nevermind 54k with the 1LE package. Remember folks we are not talking about a ZL1 or a Z/28 here, these cars are going to drop in value very quickly just like the 5th Gen SS did. The uniqueness of the GT350 will hold its value much better just like the Boss is presently. If you have 54-56k to spend your investment is much better in a GT350 TP.

IMO the only way to order up the new 6th Gen would be in 1SS form, using employee or supplier discounts, or wait for general discounting.
