Observation of NPP Exhaust / Crimped Exhaust pipes
Was checking out my new 2016 at the dealer and gave it a good inspection. Upon looking underneath at the Dual Mode set-up, I noticed the pipes immediately ahead of the muffler are about halfway crushed. The other NPP equipped SS on the lot had the same issue.
Can someone with the NPP check out their pipes and see if they are the same. I doubt it hurts performance, but I just don't see why Chevy had to "clearance" the pipes that much.

Nice catch, mine are not "crushed" but definitely pinched right before going into the muffles. Like a round oil wrench squeezed them about quarter of an inch.

It's done for cancelation of certain tones. My Mustangs resonators had the same sort of thing. Everyone thinks their dents when they see them, but they are put there for a reason. My bet is same thing goes for the NPP...

Our is crushed too. Looks like an easy fix. Bet another type of performance exhaust with straight pipes would add 10 RWHP. A kid pointed out that he thought this exhaust was as noisy as the SLP Loud Mouth on our 2002 Z28. LOL.

Most certainly not an oversight on GMs part. I'm confident there is good reason for it. Catback that adds 10 RWHP over npp is a stretch.

This is an even worse crush than the over axle piping on my factory SLP dual/dual exhaust on my 2000 camaro. |

Check directly under the axle, it's definitely crushed significantly. That pinched part entering the muffler is nothing in comparison.

Why are people using the terms "Issue" and "crushed"
It is a design featured engineered by highly paid GM employees that know a whole lot more about the exhuast requirements than internet experts. Get over it.

Yeah considering it seems to be making more power to the ground than the corvette which doesn't have crushed sections, I'd say it's not hurting flow.

Also, in case anyone is interested, it looks like Faurecia makes the muffler. They make a lot of OEM exhaust systems and their name is stamped into the bottom of the muffler (dual mode SS that I was looking at). |

2016 Camaro SS NPP Exhaust Pipes Crimped @ Rear Axel
So, any theory on why this is? Having my car on a lift and on the ground, it looks like there is plenty of clearance. Could this be damping the sound and or performance?
I am working with my brother in-law to see how we can add an H-Pipe and have a better flow on this section of pipes for the NPP system.
