What Gen 6 cars is GM building right now?

A lot of us have orders in, we know press have been driving new cars with both the LT and SS being cars pictured thus far. We know the plant is cranking out cars mixed with LTs, LT RS, and SS variants.

But what are these cars for? CTFs, crash tests, press, GM tour models?

The earliest Target Production Week we know of ( if it holds) is 10/5. I know some car orders saw a Tenative Target Production week of 9/7 -9/13 which obviously changed.

Makes me wonder if any of these cars are being held for quality control already. Most dealers are saying they are just now getting bigger alocations, but I doubt these cars when put into the system will get built by 10/5.

Could the 10/5 cars see low 100's in their Vin numbers?

I know.... be patient. But just random thoughts while I am traveling.

Preproduction cars get special VINs so that the first regular production car is still #0001

I'd say they're test cars for review, or crash test ones. Something else though, since the RS is only on the LT, why not just call them LT, RS, and SS?

Lansing Grand River is producing various versions of Cadillac vehicle lines, including the ATS-V. I do not expect the first regular production 2016 model year Camaro to roll off final assembly until between 8AM and 9AM the first Monday in October.

Because RS isn't a model specific identifier. You have to have an LT to even be able to get the RS and you have two tiers of LT. It is also easy to see the difference between an LT and an LT RS.

1LT
1LT RS
2LT
2LT RS

Would have been cool to call out an identifier for V6 and I4T. At least for now the SS will be easy, as they come standard with the RS goodies.

1SS
2SS

I am sure a 1LE is on the way.

If I could, I'd buy a ticket and pay for a factory tour to see my car get built.

I am hoping they are doing QC on these cars right now, hopefully our cars after they get built will be shipped very shortly and either little or even no QC at that point...we shall see shortly though.

Me too, kind of like the Corvette delivery/tour.

I just hope they have a Camaro home coming at Lansing Grand River like they did in Oshawa. Maybe for the 50th Ann.

Thats kinda the point of doing preproduction cars: sorting out as many bugs as you can

No quality control?!?!? Just assume that the cars built are perfect & send them on their way without checking to be sure?

You have far more faith in GM than I do.

I didn't mean to say no QC at all, just meant hopefully it might shorten the QC a bit, but yes I want to make sure my car is as close as 100% perfect as possible...just anxious for my order to be built and delivered.

CTF for now. Multiple uses but CTF is a quality check. Yes, some are also going through durability checks and final tweaks. And these are the cars the press has probably already reviewed.

Next phase is regular production.......soon. And we all know how much we hate "soon"

Wish we knew when the information embargo date is & when it will be lifted. Would assume they have a hard date in mind for the print & online media that have been in the cars already.
