Shelby GT350 / 2SS 2016 Pricing...
So when we caught our first glimps of the 6th gen camaro a few months ago, I again fell in love...hard! And now that we have finally gotten out prices on each model, I know quite a few of us were concerned. Now that Ford has revealed the price of the all new Shelby GT350 at 48k and some change, I am even more baffled by GM's pricing of the camaro. I still favor the camaro over the mustang for many reasons, but when you can buy a base GT350 for only a couple grand more, and maybe even less than a loaded 2SS, it tends to steer one in the direction of Ford. That GT350 is sick, and yes I realize it may not have all the creature comforts as a loaded SS, but you are basically getting a street legal race car. Anyone else now looking at the GT350 after the price reveal?

Oh God.. This again.
The GT350 is 50k, not 48. The 2SS is 42,300. That's almost an 8k dollar difference. 1SS is 37,300. That's almost a 13k difference. |

And I highly doubt any GT350 buyer will not also get the track pack...add another 7K.

Agree with the others. This comparison makes zero sense. It's nearly 13k difference for the track goodies the GT350 gives you. Comparing to an every box checked 2SS means the camaro is giving you a crap ton more features. At this point you have to add track and tech to the GT350 and so you tack on another 10k.
Why would someone that wants all the creature comforts of the 2SS cross shop a base GT350? They wouldn't.

So I started looking at what else was available in that price range. Obviously that brought in GT350 and C7's. I'm not a track guy, and my wife isn't fond of really loud cars, so I ruled out the GT350 no matter how cool the track star status is. For me it's down to C7 and 2SS convertibles, with Wifey, God bless her, leaning towards a C7. ![]() EDIT: Some of you are very hung up on pricing. Please remember, some of us aren't.

^^ Exactly. Big difference in price. I would imagine most GT350 buyers will not buy the base car with no options. I'm sure very few will but many will have some sort of options and this will widen the gap to the price that much more. Like someone said most people buying the 2SS want a loaded car and will not go for a base GT350

Why would a person cross shop a convertible to a coupe of a different car? Isn't the type of car what your first decision should be? Makes no sense.
If I wanted to drive around with the top down, I wouldn't go look at a GT350. I'd cross shop a Mustang and Camaro convertible. |

Because I've never owned a convertible and think it might be fun. Just like a GT350 would be fun. Just like a C7 might be fun. Don't try and force your opinions / views / judgements on others because you disagree. Why not just be open minded? I don't see people complaining about it when people talk about buying C7's instead, only when people bring up Ford (or Dodge) products... I wonder why that is?

Now, there is no more reason to buy a GT350 over a Camaro SS than there is to buy one over a Mustang GT with PP. Same thing has been brought up vs the Corvette comparison. It's not apples r apples. People want to compare a fully loaded 48k Camaro with everything available to a barebones 55k dollar Corvette.. Well, stupid ass comparison. If you don't need all those options on the Vette, then you live without them on the Camaro. 2SS to base Corvette is a 13k dollar difference. That's a lot of money. |

...I think the term "cross-shopping" is probably not a good one to use. To me, it would mean shopping different brands with similar features and price.
But to others, it means being open to any model, features, price or brand. To me, that's not "cross-shopping", it's just looking at anything and everything... |

It's ok, some people just can't / don't want to get it. I understand. We'll just agree to disagree. Enjoy your Mustang, I liked mine, and it was the first place I looked for a replacement this time around.

The forthcoming 2016 SS Camaro looks like it will be almost as fast as our ZL1. The ZL1 is a fun car. It is the car I drive when I just want to cruise and have fun. It is a six speed manual and it sounds much better than the LT1 in the Corvette (IMO). You sit up much higher in traffic and there is more room inside the cabin. Our 2012 car is not as tech oriented as the 2015 Corvette but it is more like the muscle cars that I grew up with but much better. The ZL1 does everything with ease. It's Mag Ride is not as definitive as the Corvette's but again I usually drive it in Tour mode. I find that I enjoy tracking the ZL1 more than the Corvette because I can just drive it and concentrate on my line and not have to worry about overheating the transmission. I like having a trunk as apposed to a hatch. If I am going on a long trip with my wife I will take the Corvette and for shorter trips by myself I will the Camaro. I enjoy both cars but I do see a 6th Gen. Camaro convertible some time in our future. But that will be a couple of years from now. I hope this helps.
