Like how you mention $49-50k for the one you want. Which means 2SS with essentially every option, but earlier you said you didn't want all the "stuff" in the new gen. So why would you not price a 1SS which would be comparable to a '15 1LE and see how they have almost the same MSRP? I mean it's one thing to say hey you can get a much better deal on a '15 right now, but you can't say at the same time the '16 is priced too high. And just in case you don't remember: 2015 1SS M6 1LE - MSRP $38k 2016 1SS M6 - MSRP $36,300 Let's not even get into what the '16 1SS has over the '15 1SS. You can have your opinion, but stick to the facts.

it just seems to me that with this new iteration once again Camaro is trying to closer and closer to the Corvette. I had a 2 2002 Camaros and it is a cave with no space and crazy hot inside. The 5th gen is closer to a "heavy chevy" and having sedan like space. The new Camaro being smaller and more compact is trying a formula closer to the 4th gen. If it were me I would get the 5th gen and save your money then get a Corvette.

45 should have been the range for a loaded 2ss that would have sold cars

It has been more than a few years since you could get a base vette for less than $37k.

Also the 1SS has the same track cooling/braking as the 2SS. So what besides leather and HUD are you wanting that a 1SS doesn't have?

Now lighter is better and I am sure the quality of the rather plain, although nicely stylized 5th gen, is much improved in the 6th gen. But apparently the visibility still sucks in the 6th gen. If you are going to compare prices you would have to compare a used ZL1 against a loaded CA6 SS. I am sure the ZL1 would have no problem performing as well or better than the 6th gen SS and it is a much smarter buy with the depreciation hit already taken. They are kind of rare and have tons of potential if you want to go faster. They are also dead reliable and to some eyes better looking than the 6th gen. You would not have the fastest supercar, but you would have a supercar. The CA6 SS will not be leaving a ZL1 in the dust, on the street, at the drags, or on a road track. The ZL1 is an amazing all around car. I built my 1LE to a very high level, but if I had to do it over again, I would have bought a ZL1. The older car is the smarter buy. And when the next ZL1/Z28 comes out you can expect it to be super expensive. Oh, and one other thing, for the price of a loaded SS you can buy (but maybe not with ADM) a base GT 350. Now that car just might leave the new SS in the dust.

I'll line up my ZL1 against the 1SS/2SS 6th Gen and see what happens and report back to you guys.

Where do get your saving $10K on 2015 1LE over a 2016. Have you actually priced how expensive the 2015's are? To spec a 1 or 2SS 1LE like a 2016 the price difference is not even worth a mention.
The 5th gen crowd possibly wont agree with me, but yes I think it will be like the scenario you mention between the LT and LS era. GM did flat out amazing things on the 5th gen with a heavy chassis that was never really designed to be a performance car. Now your getting a lighter chassis designed around performance from its inception by the same people that sprinkled magic all over the heavy Zeta chassis, plus 30 hp and 35 lb/ft. I think the likely outcome is obvious here

I'm not sure how you consider that close. If you're talking past generations, of course the new camaro is going to be closer in price to an older generation corvette. Heck, the price of a 1953 C1 started at $3,490! You could buy 12 C1s in 1953 for what GM is charging for the 2016 2SS today! That is absolutely ridiculous, I'm not sure what GM is thinking! |
