Yes I agree the 1/4 mile is much more important than track numbers IMO.

1/4mi is a better indicator of horsepower, for sure.

Only thing I don't know about is the hero runs. I don't think it has enough to hit high 11s as it comes off the showroom floor. That is ZL1 territory, while I am not saying it wont happen, I don't see hero runs cracking 12.00 |

12.5-12.7 should be done with the m6 in most mags. Guessing the a8 will show 12.4-5 in mags. Not to diss the zl1 or anyone who owns them. It is a fine machine. But when it comes to the 1/4 mile I haven't been very impressed with it. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see a stock 6th gen ss a8 be pretty close to it. Much closer than you would think looking at the 580 hp. Betting a zl1 will only have a slight edge stock for stock. What is the fastest bone stock zl1 11.7-8? Can't remember. The zl1 advantage will only be a couple tenths if I had to guess. |

Stock C7s have managed mid to high 11s stock in their hero runs. The Camaro SS will weigh what....maybe three to four hundred pounds more? That could certainly equate to high 11, low 12 hero runs for the A8 SS.
Unless for some reason the SS just can't launch like the C7 does.

My Prediction? PAIN. (said in my best Clubber Lange voice)
For Ford and Dodge and they might take away a few sales from the 3 series as well and at this point I'm not sure the Genesis coupe or Z is even is selling much to compete with it.

Honestly it's going to be a drivers race with an a8 392. If I had to bet though I would give the edge to the camaro. It should have a power to weight edge and gm had the advantage of coming out afterwards/ can benchmark. The mustang gt has absolutely zero chance of beating the camaro ss for 2016. Zero. As you said PAIN! Camaro ss should have a decisive edge for sure over stang gt. I pity the fool! |

I'll go with average magazine times of 12.2 for the auto, 12.4 for the manual.
Rationale: The auto challenger scat pack does 12.6 per C&D. The challenger has a weight/power of 8.79 (at 4276 curb weight) versus 8.35 (assuming a pessimistic curb weight of 3800lbs). In addition, launching the challenger is largely traction limited. The combination of better weight/power ratio and better launch capability (wider rubber, less weight and power to overwhelm contact patch) of the camaro should, in my mind, be worth .4 sec in the quarter. Across most of this class of cars, the magazine drivers seem to run a consistent .2 sec slower in the manuals.

I know the ZL1 is a bit of porker but I just have hard time seeing a hero run of the 6th gen with the A8 hitting times that not many 580HP Zl1s have even seen. I am not saying it won't happen, I just have a hard time seeing it happen. |
