I think he is talking about 5th gen SS owners being worried about 6th gen V6's, which is a bit of a stretch IMO.

Correct. But I'm not sure why you think its a stretch. Most drivers struggle to get a low/mid 13sec run from a 5th gen. The next 6 cylinder should run mid/high 13's with the HP/weight that keeps getting tossed around. That my friend is enough to make one take notice.

V8 4th gen vs SS 5th gen ... I give the 5th the edge so ... V6 6th gen vs V8 5th, I give the 5th a decent edge. I say its a stretch because I look at things with all other elements being equal. Could a great driver behind the wheel of a 6th gen V6 beat a newb in a 5th gen SS? Sure. But would I expect an average 6th gen owner to beat an average 5th gen SS owner? Nope, and from the looks of your post ... neither do you. Be 'afraid' or 'worried' or 'scared' of what is normal ... not what is rare.

I have a curve ball on the performance of the 6th generation Camaro.......
The 2001 E46 BMW M3 had a weight of around 3,430 pounds and packed 333BHP, the 2016 V-6 Camaro should be around 3,450 pounds and packs 335BHP. Car and Driver tested a 2001 M3 and got to 60 in 4.5 seconds and ran a 13.1 @ 107MPH in the 1/4. It looks like base wise the 2016 V-6 Camaro will be close to the E46 M3 with a better chassis and better tires to boot. |

Modern turbo BMWs have been under rated due to an assumption of worse possible conditions. Not the case with their normally aspirated engines especially from over a decade ago.

I've seen several 290+ RWHP dyno charts for E46s. That's around 11% loss with is definitely low. Not as underrated as the turbo engines have been I agree. Regardless BMW does not use SAE rating and the LGX is SAE rated. So I don't expect as good of times from the LGX cars. Maybe a hero run close to 13.1.

I think a realistic guess is a half second quicker than whatever the v6 is currently capable of.
300 lbs lighter. Little more hp. And an 8 speed. That should take off around a half second. 14 flat at 100 is where the current v6 car ends up in negative da. And the rest are around mid 14s. Mid 13s best case scenario. Let's not kid ourselves. An ls3 will walk from that like nothing. Thats a full second away from the ls3 hero time. Like has been said... Possibly a good race for an auto 4th gen and maybe an L99 car with more of a stretch. |

Close enough where "anything can happen on the street" applies, but not a genuinely faster car.

Wouldn't it be great to have all the past camaros from gen 4, 5 and 6 to line up for a drag race? Get the turbo 4, V6 , V8 auto and manual. Would be interesting to see.

Lets put it this way ... if a 6th gen V6 lines up beside a stock 5th gen SS, which driver should be worried about losing?
