Word is the Hellcats have a conservative tune too, its all relative.
I think all this panic is a little premature.. |

Sorry I'm calling bs. This is just some media talk to calm people down. Truth is gm clearly screwed up with the 1.7 and intercoolers.

Using a 1.7L on a 6.2L engine always did strike me as odd. I understand there were pedestrian safety, aesthetic, and aero constrictions for hood design...but it just seems like an over compromised decision.

As long as the ECU can be modified by a tuner, I say all is well....If we are seeing the future of performance (that is, fake out the average buyer and the govt with a de-tuned car)...and the serious trackers can have what they think they are paying for, then tune it and go....warranty,eh....I say go this route as long as they are willing to build hi-performance engines....
Hasn't this always been the beef with Dodge, that the ECU codes can't be broken or changed...not sure on that, but I have heard a lot of Charger and Challenger owners can't re-tune their cars....Hopefully GM and Chevy stay more aftermarket friendly.... |

If there were no "fix" I don't think they would sell any of these cars at all...I look at it as sort of the same deal as getting around AFM or the Skip-Shift feature.... |

No one should have to tune their car and toss out their warranty to get the advertised power. If companies behaved like that, GM could have revved the LS7 to 8k rpm long enough to record a horsepower rating and advertised that. After all, I'm sure someone somewhere has built an LS7 capable of 8k rpm, even if only for a race or two.

When "track" car is overheating within 4 laps I say that's a huge fail. We expected heats oak issues but not like this.

I too thought the same thing ..to small of a blower for that engine 1.7 liter is smaller than a stock 03-04 cobra with 4.6l although I know that blowers have become more efficient that's still to small for 6.2l . The 1.7 on the new corvette probably hits hard down low but I bet it starts to fall of bad up top due to not being able to keep up and over spinning it is just going to cause more heat soak ..The new Z06 is a dud I was starting to feel this way more and more as I see videos and tests .GM went a little soft ...should have done what the hellcat team did and said OK most powerful muscle car ,well we got the most powerful sports car and bam 725hp

It's obviously having cooling issues and the tuning is a way of GM solving it. Cut back the power to keep the engine from blowing due to the cooling issues. Obviously an engineering issue.
