NG Chevy SS - what I hope comes to be

So a few weeks in with our new SS and I am now envisioning what might be possible for a NG car.

First I assume that if Camaro comes off of Alpha and Holden ceases production in Australia the Zeta Architecture dies.

Second, I assume the Holden brand lives and there is a need for a Coomodore replacement in RWD form.

Third, we know the CTS V-sport gets the 420 HP 3.6L TT and we can surmise that the next CTS-V (I guess it matters where the hyphen goes before or after the V) will get the LT4 announced for the Z06.

Fourth, the premise for the SS was a sedan with the C6 power train, the LS3 with a 6 speed automatic. We won't consider that it's also the Camaro SS power train, but Reuss did call it the 4 door Corvette.

That being the case there seems to be room for a global sedan for Chevy/Holden/Vauxhall based on Alpha with the C7 power train, LT1 with an 8 speed auto.

Thoughts? If a Alpha can spawn a NG Chevy Camaro then it is no longer a Cadillac exclusive.

Thoughts?

And for bonus points...........should this just be a NG Impala? Holden would want a V6 version as well and a 2.0T as fits in the CTS could be in play for FE and enable AWD for Northern states.

If we are operating under the assumption that the SS sedan will continue in some fashion (and we all hope it does), there are only three options as I see it.

1. Continue on Zeta as a low-cost full size platform. But where to make it? Oshawa?
2. Move to Alpha in 2016 after Cadillac has had exclusive use for several years. Camaro is using it anyway, why not?
3. Hold out for Omega!

Number 2 seems the most viable option to me. I wish they would offer the 2.0T in addition the LT1 though.

This is a Niche car I see it only having 1 Generation for about 3 to 5 years maybe then being done and not having another SS sedan. Prolly will be a RWD Buick Maybe Gn or GNX with the twin turbo V6 will be something to look forward too.

If GM wants to do something RWD for Buick as the on again/off again rumors of GNXs and Grand Nationals suggest, a 2nd gen Alpha-based SS sedan would make that a stronger business case.

I would like to see the next gen SS become the Chevelle. If they make it a 2 door and 4 door, I think it could be a big success.

Australia doesn't get RWD cars because of excessive market demand (namely because Australia is 2/3 the market of Canada ... and we're barely a blip on GMs radar in terms of being a unique market), they get them because of local manufacturing capacity. Since Australia is so small, Holden & Ford Australia haven't really had the money to do the complete overhaul of their production facilities that would be required to build FWD cars. So they kept building Commodores & Falcons of the same basic size and configuration for decades. To get the most out of these plants, the rest of the world gets Australian built RWD cars to fill a few niches.

GM will almost certainly replace the Commodore with the Impala in Australia, rather than replace the Impala with a next gen equivalent to a global Commodore.

*edit*

Wait a minute ... isn't it usually me that offers a cool idea for GM to make more performance oriented cars, then you come in and explain why it won't happen?

Buick needs a new GN and it needs to be a monster or atleast have the potential to be.

If GM had long term plans for the SS it would be available in Canada, they have no intent on competing with the Charger or 300. That is why the SS is a niche car, GM should have a GN, Monte or Impala that looks different from the rest of it's line up

If GM gives Buick that level of performance, GM is dead in the water.

Buick is the reason Chevy isn't as good as it could be. Look no further than the Malibu debacle.

RWD Impala.........all I'm saying.

If they can do that the SS has a chance. May be an Impala SS, but I'd be ok with that as long as it's RWD, LT1 powered with an 8 speed automatic or DCT.

The problem that I have with GM is that it has left people two options in Canada Camaro or Vette, that is ok if you have the funds to by a car for weekends or if you do not have kids.

When I was growing up we had Buicks and Cutlass, and you could fit the family in those cars. I picked a car that I could fit the family in. GM has nothing to offer me, so when the kids are gone I will get my Cutlass 442 or my Monte, Chevelle etc. I will not be getting anything new they make other than a Camaro maybe a Vette. All the other cars they make look all the same cant tell a Chevy from a Buick.
I'm a GM guy always have been but I have gone where the cars are.
