Lot of backs hurt here. Mine is still my groin or hernia. Also shoulder.
Summer league would have started for me tonight but I passed. I am at my worst since I started bowling 22 years ago. Rebuilding the whole thing is proving almost too much. But I've gone far enough that my old game is horrible. Good luck guys. Hope you get the backs better soon. |

Ended up not bowling last week because of my back. Tuesday was the last night of the season so they decided to do no-tap, so I bowled to try and make some money. I own the sheet in every scratch catagory, but they only pay out high handicap scores. So even though I led the sheet scratch with 279, the guy that bowled a 312 w/ handicap won the money.
So on the sweeper night, they pay out for handicap pins over average series. My only chance to make money. I ended up bowling 794 scratch, 797 handicap. Came in 5th. I think this will be my last handicap league.

Changed bowling alleys for the summer, and WOW!! Can you say wake up call? Ended the season with a 218avg. Came in and shot 512. This is supposed to be the best bowling alley in the state. It is a beautiful house, but they need to design a better shot. My ball did nothing, both of my parents' balls did nothing. I ended up playing straight up 13, left countless 10s since I had no angle into the pocket. Definitely going to have to think about what to do for next week!

Tough shots make better bowlers in the long run. I've seen many great house-shot bowlers humbled by the USBC Open patterns. I think I shot a 1280 all-events total one time.
Though I've never been considered "great."I ended the Fall/Winter league on an upswing over the last two weeks - 644, 709. Didn't reverse the team slide down the rankings though. We recaptured 5th place - same position as last year. We were a game out of first 4-5 weeks ago.... d'oh.

Im all for tough shots, but I was just caught off guard as this was my second time bowling there. I didnt think a house shot would be that tough. A typical house shot has dry boards out past 5 with heavy oil in the center. This was almost like an inverted pattern. May need to go over to storage and pick out a different set of balls. I drill my balls to be all back end. I may need to get something that has more of an arc layout.

Yep, the old "reverse block". The USBC Open shot plays like that. Outside 7 or so is completely out-of-bounds. It really makes me uncomfortable knowing I can't leak it out and get away with it like a typical house shot ("top-hat" pattern) would. I've had occasional success playing straight up the oil line trying to find the speed that gets the ball to work into the dry at the right point to get it to the hole. I've also played it deep inside with a weaker ball. It definitely makes you work for your score, that's for sure...

Just going to post up a little bit of my off season after league bowling. Have a gentleman who took 3 of my balls plugged them redrilled & put a medium shine on them. the diff. of weight in the 3 is 2lbs. He relocated the balance hole & 1 of them is bigger than the other 2. I like the set up so far. Travels farther down the lane before reacting to the oil shot. It has got me so I only leave the 10 pin once in a while. I'm a right hander I use to throw the ball out about 10 feet at 17 to 19 mph because of my back problems. Now there is 3 of us that bowl for fun . So on wed. there is no bowling. But I know the guy that runs the alley. He agreed to let us bowl with fresh alleys & his oil pattern with out us knowing what he put down. He changes the pattern every week. I bowl with storm balling balls. These are the 3 I use Virutal Gravity,Marvel,& Crossroads. Crossroads is the one I like best I use it for spares to. Sorry for all the long letter . Will update starting & ending average a little later.
.

Shot 609 this week. Definitely better than last week! When throwing the ball this slow, its easy to work on fundamentals, so I was really working on the yo-yo throw. Really seems to have picked up my rev rate. Was still playing significantly straighter than I ever have, but the ball seemed to move harder on the back end. This might be the summer to work on ME!! Lol!

In past summers I bowled on a league that put out the Sport patterns. It put a hurting on one's average, but in the long run it was exactly what you said - a chance to work on your game. I'm lazy now and take the summer off...
