DirecTV / Uverse / Comcast
Ok so I'm in the mood to maybe change providers. I currently have Comcast and me and the wife are hating the 2 show DVR limitation. Comcast has the new X1 platform box but you have to get it with a triple play bundle that starts at $119 a month. I have free 150mbps internet so all I need is TV. I was looking at Uverse or DirecTV. Read many and many mixed reviews so I'm asking the C5 family for their experience and advice. I had Uverse awhile back but canceled for Comcast. Like I said It's because we would like to record more than 2 shows at once with good reliability like Comcast. Thanks in-advance!

I wasin a similar situation as you are about 3 months ago. I ended up going with DIRECTV for some reason I can record multiple times at one time. DirecTV still has issues with reception during inclement weather but it has improved over the years. company with DIRECTV I am recording 3 shows at the same time and have access to Movies on Demand. I previously had Uverse and switched over to DIRECTV, it takes awhile to get used to the DirecTV format because I feel the uverse format is very user friendly.

I just switched from Optimum (Cablevision) to Dish Network. We actually tried Dish a few years ago and cancelled within a week, back then their equipment was horrible.
I actually like Dish now. You can watch Live TV ANYWHERE or DVR'd shows ANYWHERE or On Demand ANYWHERE. As long as you have wifi or 3G/4G, you can watch. The equipment is much better now too. No problems this time. We were at a wedding yesterday during the playoffs........guess who didn't miss the games? As far as internet and phone with them, I would not know. They have an introductory rate that is ok and they also were giving out FREE iPad 2s. Check it out.

I have nothing but negative things to say about Comcast. When I lived with my parents, it was all that was available in our neighborhood and it was horribly inconsistent. Internet speeds were all over the place and we would lose it altogether at least 1 day a month. Cable tv was the same way, and when we upgraded to HD we kept having the audio cut out on us. Not to mention their cable boxes bug out within 3 months. I can't even count how many they've gone through. Here on base, comcast is the only thing available to us and I have the same problems. I didn't even bother with HD cable or anything because everything I watch I can find online, but the internet is just as inconsistent. The comcast rep on base is their saving grace from my reign of terror because she is so nice and always willing to go out of her way to make us happy. I honestly feel bad for her, such a hard worker having to do so much because the company she works for sucks.

I love my direct tv. If you go with I'll give you my account and you can get 10 bucks off a month for 10 months. I've had it for 4 years with no problems

I love my directv! I used to have charter cable and will never go back. I got the genie and can record I believe up to 5 things. By far the best tv provider I've experienced. Check out my thread on them vs dish: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=273347

I love Comcast and have had no problems with them and I would upgrade to the X1 if I needed a home phone line which I don't so I do know what your saying about the 2 show Dvr only but the rest u can on demand as well which I do. Ive never had any problems with Comcast been a 10 plus year costumer.

Thank you all for your input. I have made my choice. I went and bought the new Tivo Roamio box, it's what's replacing the Premier box's out now. I learned tonight that Uverse doesn't record 4 HD shows its 2HD & 2SD shows at one time. DTv Genie does record 5 at one time which is awesome. But I'm good with the Roamio with its 4 shows. I get a massive discount from Comcast and have had no issues with them. So ill stick with them I'll just own my own DVR box and save on box rental and use it towards the Tivo subscription.
This new Tivo box is loaded with goodies. And it records over the air TV channels also. Meaning you don't need a cable provider just a antenna is needed. It also has built in WiFi. I will also be buying the Tivo streaming boxes as the Roamio can act as a total home DVR also. The size comparison is huge also lol. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3

The upfront cost is definitely not insignificant since you have to purchase the equipment and subscribe to the monthly service or purchase a lifetime subscription. (the lifetime is the way to go) But I have had a simple Series 2 Tivo run flawlessly for over 7 years before I upgraded to the Premier 4 which has worked without issue for 1 year now. Check with Comcast about the monthly fee for a Cable Card (they are usually less than a box rental) and to see if they use a video delivery system called SDV (Switched Digital Video) which will necessitate the use of a tuning adapter to be able to tune to some channels. EDIT: And it looks like you already decided, good choice!! |
