2014 Shelby GT 500 and 2nd Gear

Only 900 miles on the odometer and already in the bodyshop. The car still has temp tags on it! The owner is in his 50s-60s, said he threw it in 2nd gear and the car came from under him and he lost control of the Beast.

These things are too fast for some. There was a modded one running 11.2-3s with TC on.

661 as advertised I believe, but the aftermarket are dynoing them over 600 to the wheels straight off the showroom floor. Its a freaking torque monster with some slick ass tires.

Hard to believe that putting it in second gear would cause it to over steer that dramatically. 3 & 9 oclock on the steering wheel and keep it straight, then mash the petal. Of course make sure the tires are warmed up, and that the streets are dry.

Honestly, I'm almost afraid to drive the current GT500. It seems like something that could get you killed very easily.

The GT500's have a nasty tendency for the ass end to snap left or right when starting to spin. Especially in 2nd gear. You never know if it will go left or right. LOL

They are a handful to drive on the stock tires. Mine had near 700 rwhp and 700 rwtq and it was pretty entertaining to be able to blazé the tires at over 100 mph with ease.

Aftermarket rear lower control arms help the situation out quite a bit.

Ouch! I guess maybe there is such a thing as too much power.

What's the trick for being able to do that, besides having the power, just dumping the clutch?

I see that the OP is in Texas, but even there weather conditions have to be getting cooler. The GY G2's that come on the GT500/ZL1s are nasty nasty nasty tires when it get's cold (see sub 50's, and just retarded when into the 30's and below). Throw in 600/600 and you can see what happens when you put down a little more right foot than you thought.

It literally doesn't take much to get the rear hopping at 50-60 mph, and like mentioned above a sudden release of throttle is going to fling the rear right back around the other direction.

2nd gear ends around 95 mph in these cars. Just shift to 3rd around 100 mph...mash throttle...hope it's warm...or else prepare for shit to escape your drawers.

...if you want to compare performance numbers, well, the GT500 retains it's title of the highest hp, worst performing car in the world.

On the stock tires I could roll into the throttle in 3rd gear and it would spin.

In second gear rolling into the throttle would make the ass end go left or right instantly. Its pretty violent. Just to much TQ for the stock tires and cheap floppy lower control arms.

2nd gear up to 95 mph, damn! I didn't know they get up to those speeds in such low gears! Impressive as hell. He destroyed the driver rear wheel, rotor & all the other components connected to suspension, rear end is dropped out b/c I'm sure it shifted, the exhaust was pushed towards pass side as well. This guy took a hit both ways, the crash and resale value. Sucks, but he'll be back on the road sooner or later when it's done, by that time it will be colder so, hopefully he takes it easier until spring!

Sorry to thread jack, but you got rid of your GT500 for a Charger? Did you fall and hit your head?

Back on topic, Most people that end up with these types of cars don't really have the ability to run them.
