Bad News for the SS...
http://www.autoblog.com/2013/01/16/e...aussie-dollar/
This is from an Autoblog article about how the El Camino is DOA. GM Int'l Operations head Tim Lee was asked about the SS, which is being made in Australia... Quote:

Sounds to me like it will start in ZL1 territory.

Hope its not above 40K. If it is I'll just get a Silverado instead. But I"d love to have a RWD V8 Sedan.

Well, since we can pretty much count out the extra goodies that you'd get in a ZL1 (e.g. MRC, PTM, and a supercharged V8), and since it's likely going to have an LS3 (rather than LT1) under the hood, I expect GM will only sell to those who have to have it and place an order. Once those sales dry up... |

It's seems that the more Reuss talks the more excitement drops. I guess time will tell how everything rolls out but it seems to be a very expensive venture on Chevrolet's part to bring over a car and sell such a low volume. A four door Vette sounds great but they should have really thought about a base model and a different name so this doesn't die after a year or two.

I think a $55K SS wouldn't be "low volume" so much as a flop. GM doesn't need another one after the problems with the Malibu...

Well, I can imagine a few possibilities: a) GM is going to surprise everyone with a host of extra features we'd expect for a price point of $50~$55k, b) a much lower price than everyone is anticipating, or c) this car is being set up to fail (hopefully unintentionally).

On another note, at this point it (almost) makes more sense to delay the SS sedan until Alpha really gets spun up and then produce it in North America as a platform mate to the gen III CTS (and possibly 6th gen Camaro). |
