This thread is not directed at this particular board at all, but I thought it would be a good idea to help people who frequent message boards sound a little more literate even if they aren't. Say what you want, people will form an opinion about you based on how you express yourself on the internet.

For those that are not aware or have simply forgotten what they learned in elementary school:

through-"I am through with this thread."
threw-"The engine threw a rod"
sell-"I have decided to sell my car."
sale-"I made the sale on Tuesday."
loose-"The lugnuts were loose."
lose-"The Camaro can never lose!"
mute-"I had to mute the radio."
moot-"It's a moot point."
choose-"You need to choose your races wisely."
chose-"I chose a 2SS over a GT500."
break-"I was tired, so I took a break."
brake-"The emergency brake handle is on the wrong side." (for you Vash.)
their-'Their tires were spinning through 2nd gear."
there-"There is no reason to get mad."
they're-"They're always bringing up the GT500."
your-"Hey, it's your car, do what you want to it."
you're-"You're crazy if you think an Xb is a cool vehicle."
forth-"Go forth and conquer!"
fourth-"I went through the traps in fourth gear."
to-"I went to the store after work."
too-"I like Camaro's and Mustangs, too."
two-"The car was two seconds faster than the truck."
wear-"There was a lot of wear visible on the cylinder walls."
where-"Where is my car?"



I'm sure there are others I have missed, but these are the misused words I see the most on many forums.

the one I see most is people say things like

I break checked the guy behind me.

The correct homonym is Brake.

I'll buy that for typos or shorthand. But most of the stuff here isn't that. It's just ignorance.

For example, "should of" is not short for "should have", you've got should've or even shouldve (if you're really lazy) for that.
