From the SEMA Show FAQ:
Quote:
How do I register for the SEMA Show?

The SEMA Show is a trade-only industry event; it is not open to the general public. However, if you are an employee of a company that is qualified to attend the show, log onto www.SEMAShow.com and click on “Attend Show.” Buyers, exhibitors and media can register here.

Can consumers attend the SEMA Show?

No, the SEMA Show is not open to the general public. The SEMA Show is a trade-only event and only qualified individuals employed within the aftermarket industry are permitted to enter the convention center. Unfortunately, the following business categories do not qualify to attend: accounting firms, consumers, freight providers, graphics companies (non-automotive), installation/dismantling companies, insurance agents, law firms, modeling agents/agencies, packaging companies, printers, software companies (non-automotive specific), travel agencies or any non-automotive company.
There are a few ways around this like if a vendor is using your car in a display.

I went last year and participated in focus groups to get in, I was invited back but, I won't make it this year.
Check SEMA's website to see if you can get in an opinion leader focus group.

You tour the show and at the end of the day you sit in a room and participate in a group meeting giving your opinion on displays and manufacturers products.
There are different categories, they send you a questionnaire and based on your answers they decide what group you best fit in.

Here's how to get yourself into SEMA, free of charge, free airfare, suh-weet hotel room, a little work and tons of fun:

Step 1. Establish yourself as an expert in the field of Camaro (and other unmentionable muscle cars) performance.

Step 2. Type up your resume and forward it to Apex Motorsports. Convince me that your know how, skill and charming persona will make me more money than it will cost me (don't forget unemployment insurance, uniform shirts, employer paid taxes, paid time off, etc)

Step 3. Leave your hometown and come to work in middle America. Work hard all year. (and if you have any complaints, see Apex Chase.)

Step 4. Pick up your SEMA badge and airline boarding passes about two days before SEMA. You're going to need a couple of days of prep for the event. I suggest a good pair of name brand running or walking shoes.

Step 5. We drink Margaritas or Beer on Tuesday and Thursday nights, the other nights are for straight Tequila.

Step 6. Don't heave last night's Tequila on any suppliers on the show floor. I suggest you stay away from the BBQ sandwich they serve in the cafeteria underneath the Ford display area. It's not as good as you would think for $9.

Step 7. Repeat yearly.

Unfortunately, as said above, it's an industry only event. A few people will find a way in, but it is highly frowned upon by SEMA. If you find a legitimate way to attend, I highly recommend going.

If you need any interns, or pupils to train in the ways of all things muscle. I would be happy to lend my blood, sweat, and tears.

I agree... damn good walking shoes a must have for that show. Last year was great, got to meet Chip Foose but unlucky for me, my back issues might not let me go this year. B4 you ask.... I go under a friends company.

+1 on Step 6... SEMA 2008 - saw some dude make it up the stairs just to loose his $9 BBQ sandwich & last night's Tequila all over the carpet. Really - 100% true, ask Chris M. he saw it too - I'm not kidding.
