Two reasons. First, the LS1 Camaro made more than the advertised 305 hp (it was much closer to the Corvette's 340-350). Second, way more torque.

The Zeta platform is supposed to be around until 2020. I would anticipate that around that time frame, when the GEN 6 comes out, we will see the Camaro get much smaller, just as with the GEN 3's. The V8 option will more than likely still be an option but I wouldn't be surprised, due to technological advances, that we will see it more as a special order rather than a standard option due to the HP ratings and fuel ratings that will accompany the V6 forms.

Sure miss the 454, that was a nice sounding motor. And you knew any car with that logo on it meant business! Even the '73 Caprice 454 tested 0-60 in 8.0 seconds, iirc.
