It's not a popular opinion, I'm very aware of that.

If you read my reasons, though...like them or not, I'm surprised you'd say that.

If you actually look at market trends only one thing is consistent, prices for resources are always on the climb with only short declines. Much more likely we'll see much higher prices in 10 years if current conditions continue.

Yahoo reports we might see gas prices at $5 a gallon by 2012. Currently gas cost $2.86 a gallon and it cost me $52.25 to fill up my jeep yesterday. Im at the gas station almost every 4 days. Imagine how I feel :(

That's exactly how I felt...surprised you'd want gas to cost $4 a gallon. This is a muscle car forum, right?

It sure is...doesn't mean I have to love cheap gas. It's convenient for me, sure, but I'm a big picture kinda guy.

How about the big picture of what $4 a gallon gas does to our whole economy? How about a little empathy? Know any poor people? How about some Middle Class people who are going to be poor people if gas settles at $4 a gallon? Know any people out of work? It's a pretty ugly "big picture" in my humble opinion.

It is VERY ugly, I agree. But the 'big picture' is hardly ever pretty...which explains why everyone is so focused on themselves lately.

Nevertheless it's going to get worse unless we do something about it darn quick. I would've loved for some recession-time initiatives to advance current alternatives...but apparently, we're too short-sighted of a society to work on these things before it's a problem...so, I invite the problem and pray the solution is a quick one. :(

As far as the impact on me? I still want a Camaro...so I'll just need to budget for the gasoline to feed it. I don't plan on complaining though...I believe in the innovation it will create.
I am just not seeing the logic, this all seems to be about perceptions/marketing and not facts (I could be wrong but I don't think so).

Classic example the Toyota Prius Marketed on Tv with freaking polar bears hugging pruis owners in commercials as if the car is even remotely eviornmentaly friendly. People totaly ignore how the Prius is made and the fact that it does more damage to the enviornment before it leaves the showroom floor than a Tahoe driven like 500,000 miles. Lets say if Cars go electric, don't most electric plants use fossel fuels to produce electricity? It all seems like a giant "reshuffle" of fuel sorces and have people believe that "Hey If we don't see us using fuel to drive our cars that must mean we are useing less of it." Which would be totally bogus.

I don't think you're following which 'alternatives' I have in mind...electric cars won't take over the market near-term. They're still very expensive, and don't have the range necessary to be practical. The Volt is a different story...but it's still pretty pricey. As for electrical production...true, many plants are still fossil-fuel powered, but they're cleaner that the equivalent amount of cars their electricity would theoretically take off the road. All those electric/hydrogen cars are long-term things...not what I'm concerned with at the moment.

I'm talking about fuel alternatives for traditional internal-combustion engines, like biomass(not feedstock)-based Ethanol, and algae-based gasoline/diesel. When mass produced, these fuels are competitive, if not cheaper than $4 petroleum-based gasoline and they please the greenies. But without the demand for these clean, renewable alternatives driven by expensive gas, they just don't see life.

That's why I say what I do. I'm tired of being at the mercy of the world market because suddenly China and India want cheap fuel. Time to take care of ourselves. And if a couple years of ridiculously-priced gas is what it takes, then so be it.

perfect ! and did you know the volt takes 40k to make and they sell it for 41k... the technology just isnt there yet to make them affordable, we still need gas. and i am tired of being at the mercy of other countries...
