So, in general, do you agree or disagree that lower taxes makes us a more profitable country?

Wasn't directed at me; but I agree.

As far as your previous post; Again, I'm not saying we don't pay enough...it was just a counter to a "we pay too much" statement.

As with anything there is a balance that needs to be maintained. The problem is, are we a high tax country or a low tax country? We have very high corporate tax but low taxes on citizens.

I for one think that it does not depend on how much you tax but on how you spend the taxed money. And as much as people hate the US government you have to admit that so far they have done a fine job. If you disagree then show me a better government, it is bad here now but it is bad everywhere.

I would head to STL unless you are looking for a more rural area.

I am originally from IL and my wife's sisters live in Chicago so I know what you are talking about. It costs me more in tolls to drive to downtown Chicago than driving to Midtown NYC

Ok so, we are way off topic and I'll leave it at this.

I don't like the "good by comparison" logic. Not because I'm angry or looking for an excuse to bash our country or government. But mostly because I have faith that we can be so much better than we are regardless of how we compare to other Governments. We are the world leaders in so many ways and we can be so much better in so many ways. So, while acknowledging that we have it great, I also submit to you that one measure of our potential is our room for improvement. And I don't mean along party lines. Just think of what we can do now plus how much more we can do.

I think success by comparison is short sighted for our country.

MHO.

Good post! This is what has been lost in our society for much too long. We have automatically assumed that we are the best in technological advancement because for so long, it was true. Problem is, we rested on our laurels while the competition worked hard to surpass us.

I hope at the end of this bad economical down turn, business leaders remember that we must continuously strive to be the best and stay at the top. The competition will never rest and neither should we.

My point is not that we do not need to improve my point is for people that think the government is incompetent. And looking at the track record of the government they appear to know what they are doing. I for one believe that the next generation of energy wind, solar, or wave should be started in the US and we need to the model for the world in terms of energy consumption and cleanliness. The debate is should the government pay to help these advances or should government step back and let the free market take care of it? :seesaw: And that would be way off topic and should be for a different thread.

And I will leave it at that since this thread is supposed to be about the "Car Czar".
