How will the Impala improve itself to compete with the taurus?
Because as of right now its a no contest...the exterior and interior need to be improved...
yeah you can techinically say the buick lacrosse can compete with the taurus...but thats a shame to even be saying that since buick's are supposed to compete with the mercuries.

From what I've heard, the current Impala is going to continue basically unchanged until 2014.
So here is my prediction. The Impala is going to vegetate like the 2000-2006 Taurus to the point that they will feel compelled to drop the name, replace the Impala saleswise with the Malibu (think Fusion-Taurus), rename the Chevy version of the G8 something other than Impala (like with the Five Hundred), realize that was a big mistake, then re-rename the G8 Impala two or three years down the road. In short, if history repeats, the Malibu will replace the Impala, and the Impala will become the G8. I'm saying this somewhat sarcastically, but wouldn't be surprised if most of this actually happens.

The next-gen Impala on Premium Epsilon-II (Cadillac XTS's platform) is due in either 2013 or 2014, I don't remember.
There were rumors that an updated Impala was being prepared for the 2011 model year, but I don't see that happening. As for the people wanting the G8...why would you rebadge the VE Commodore when the VF is just around the corner?

That's why we didn't buy the wife an Impala, it looks dated. We bought the Malibu, even though it's a couple of years old, it still looks fresh. We looked at the Fusion and the Taurus, but couldn't get over the interior. Not the quality, but rather just the look. I really wanted a Buick, but the wife wasn't digging them either, lol.
A new Impala is needed, and I think 4 more years from now is too long. If not the whole chassis, update the look at least, and put the 5.3ltr back in the SS and bump it up a bit. Not a perfect remedy, but it might hold us over, lol. |

I've heard conflicting reports about the future of the Impala. Some say it will stay fwd and be updated in several years. However, there are also reports of a large RWD sedan comming to Chevrolet showrooms in the near future. Possibly Impala, possibly Caprice.

No, if we get a Holden-sourced RWD Zeta product, it'll be the Commodore. Caprice PPV is the WM Statesman.

But chances are slim that it would actually be named the Chevrolet Commodore.

Right, it'll be Commodore-based but wear a different nameplate, although I think Chevrolet Commodore sounds just fine to me.
