just to throw in some additional ambiguity, we also tested another Mustang GT (this one in blue and wearing summer tires), which ripped to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and blitzed the 1,320 feet in 13 seconds at 110.6 mph. That's the kind of razor's edge that can be measured in microns.

And I'm also willing to bet that the BLUE one had taller gears. Probably the 3.73.

AND JEEEEEEEZUS... almost $38K for an effin MUSTANG!!!

Right...I never mentioned the 3.73 as an option for the Camaro. The point I was making is that this has been the closest apples-to-apples comparison to date given the Mustang had similar rear gear as the Camaro factory 3.45.

It was called out that the Mustang would have been quicker with the 3.73 and the outcome would have been different to which I stated that if you went back to an apples-to-apples comparison by installing a 3.73 in the Camaro, you would wind up in the same outcome.

Not sure how/why that became so convoluted....

I don't kno what the big deal is tho... Word is that Ford damn near maxed out the 5.0L in terms of AFFORDABLE upgrades when it tried to out do the Camaro... the LS3 on the other hand can be modded ALL DAY LONG.. for under a grand and still move into the 500HP+ range. Hell... my Vette is damn near pushing 500HP with a $700 Investment. My CTS-V's LSA can get to 630HP with less than a $700 investment at Lingenfelter. Point is.. the Small-Block is SPECTACULAR...

I wonder where the "factory options are fair" argument's line can be drawn? Doesn't Ford offer other superchargers, etc. from the factory for the GT500?

I would draw the line at what you can order the car from the manufacturer and had it delivered with.

You are right though with the GT500. You can go to the Ford dealership and have them install the Super pack. They do put on a TVS blower. With the Super Pack they rate the 2010 GT500 at 660hp and the Super Pack does not void your warranty. I wouldn't call the Super Pack equipped GT500 to be factory optioned though.

And the performance numbers were expected to drop when testing a 11 GT that has all season tires over summer tires.

That is funny because I just built that Mustang for 32,980 with the 3.73's and Brembo's.

Nobody here knows how the 5.0 will respond to bolt ons. It could respond very well, you're just making an assumption off of some guy's comment on the internet. As far as the LSA...there's a 5.4 to compete with that, neither of which even belong in this conversation.

I call Factory options anything you can order and it be installed at the factory.. This does not include dealer installed options...

You can EASILY get an SS into the 38k to 40k range, not only that the base 1SS price is $2k higher than the Mustang?!? How do you laugh at that price????

Because joe blow can walk into a dealer and buy a Mustang off the lot that is theoretically faster than the Camaro. You COULD put 3.73's in the camaro but its not sold with them. You could also put a Supercharger on the Mustang and whomp the Camaro. Point being it doesn't matter that its not exact, the Mustang IS a little faster. Big deal. In the end it will likely come down to the driver anyway.

Are you an engineer? How do you know this? The aftermarket has nearly nothing so far for this car just like with the Camaro for a short while. I'm sure given a year there will be plenty of "affordable" upgrades for the 5.0, its a brand new engine it JUST came out.

Overall god the fanboyism is strong in this thread. People gotta learn to be humble and realize while yes it may be a tad bit faster in the grand scheme it doesn't mean every stoplight race the Mustang will beat the Camaro. In the end the Camaro IMO has better style, better looks, better engine (more low down torque), and driven right won't be seeing the Mustang's taillights.

So the GT500 TVS Supercharger is a dealer installed option?
