Blotchy Carbon hood insert?
I put my ZL1 away for the Winter last November and the carbon hood insert was pristine. I uncovered my Zl1 this Spring to find this blotchy appearance. Nothing I have tried is helping. Hoping someone here has seen this and has a solution. Thanks, Mark

Yikes, was it exposed to water on or under the cover? Even a humid environment?
Have you tried an ultra fine polishing compound? (spot test in case the clear coat on the insert is not the same as the paint's clear coat. |

No water, use 3 car covers. Definetly no humidity, was the coldest Winter in a long time in the Boston area. Have a bad feeling it wil need to be replaced :(

Try a vinegar solution, looks just like water spotting we get on our boats.

Agreed. The coatings on these carbon inserts are actually sealed up using the same sort of gel coat that comes on fiberglass boats. It should be treated the same way you would treat that finish.

I live in NH as well. My CF insert went through the same cold unscathed, but also uncovered the whole time. I suspect condensation caused moisture to accumulate and maybe freeze causing those spots. I'd try buffing it out with some fine polishing compound using an orbital buffer. I've done mine a few times and it's come out looking fine. So you can't really hurt it this way

The vinegar solution sadly did not help. I had already tried compound with random orbital buffer, that didn't work either :(

Are you seeing any level of improvement at all as you try different things?

Can you feel those spots if you rub your finger on them?

Probably moisture haze. Let it sit in the sun (direct full sunlight) uncovered for a few days and see if the spots fade.
