Camaro SS Whipple 3.0 - Fuel Problems
Hello everyone. My name is Beli and I live in Germany. I bought a 2017 Camaro SS. The Whipple supercharger was already installed. The renovation looks very clean. I assume the fuel system is original.
I'll share the ECU file and the log file with you. Perhaps someone can help me from afar. Here in Germany, I haven't found anyone in my area who knows anything about these kinds of cars. I would appreciate any help. Codes P0089 P228C after WOT https://www.autotuner.cloud/log/7507...fa472cdf3c9ba2 https://account.autotuner.com/en/log...fa472cdf3c9ba2 https://mega.nz/file/9HgRgaJS#iXPMaa...XTjnHPWAzh1vo8 PS: The photo shows how much the fuel pump fluctuates during constant driving. Is that normal? Last edited by Beligold; 04-23-2026 at 06:41 AM. |

I hope you got my response via Email, You will need an HPtuners device for any of us to help you.
Read out the car with Hptuners and send me the file then I can help determine if the fuel system is original or has been replaced. The kits do not come with fuel system upgrades however we offer fuel system upgrades and remote tuning to bring it all together. Ted.

Hi Ted, Your message ended up in the spam folder. I just saw it. Thanks for your message. Unfortunately, I don't have an HP tuner. I'm looking for someone near me who has one. Can't you already see from the diagram what the problem might be? I don't think the pump should be sending such a strange signal. What do you think?

Hey Beli, there is a large number of tables in a tune, all with potential changes, and the number of channels that can be logged is also in the hundreds. Low side and high side fuel pressures that you show are symptoms, the causes can only be found with a complete view of the tune and the data log.
Judging from the first link you posted, fuel pressure seem to gradually drop during the pull, which looks like a fueling problem, as ideally these should be stable. Improved fueling is particularly important when you introduce forced induction into a vehicle not originally designed for it. However, I'm just a guy, whereas Ted is a professional tuner with decades of experience, so I'd just listen to him and follow his advice (not coincidentally, he tuned my car and it runs amazingly well). Buying an HP Tuners device (MPVI3 or MPVI4) would allow you to produce full data logs and to view and even change the tune in the future, along with troubleshooting every potential issue. Also, If you have the automatic transmission (8L90), you most likely want to tune that as well, because that's the best way to avoid the shudder and to make it shift better and crisper.

ECU File is here Obd normal read whith Autotuner. If I were near you, I would come immediately. I'm currently running my car on 95 German octane fuel. I'm running the tank low and then want to fill up with 98 octane. Is that sufficient, or should I use 100 octane? I don't know if that might fix the problem. 95 octane in the EU is equivalent to 90.7 US, and 98 octane is equivalent to 93.5 US. For your engine 93 octane (US) is strongly recommended, so your 98 (EU) should be good enough. If you see a lot of knock retard in the data log (see? this is why you want to buy that HP Tuners device), switching to 100 octane may help with that.

Yes. I can see knocking with Launch Diagnostics. Even from 2000rpm. The tank will be empty soon, then I'll fill up with 98 octane. I'm still hoping for a miracle.

I ran the tank dry today and filled up with 102 German octane fuel. It's the highest possible setting in Germany. The engine is still "knocking" the same. The only thing I keep noticing is that the low-pressure pump very often drops below 3 bar during acceleration. There's a constant 15V at the tank module. As soon as I stop accelerating, the pressure in the tank jumps to over 5 bar. I think this fluctuation and the sharp drop in pressure despite 15V is not normal.

Which HP Tuner dongle is the minimum required?
Do I need anything else? Thank you. |

For your 2017, in addition to the tuning device itself you'll also need to buy 4 "universal credits" at $49.99 each to tune the ECM (engine control module). If you want to tune the TCM (transmission control module), you need 4 more credits, and if you want to change the settings on the dual mode exhaust, you need 1 more credit for the FSCM (fuel system control module). So, to tune everything on the car, you need 9 credits, if you only care about the engine, then 4 credits. In your shoes I'd definitely want to tune the trans (assuming you have an automatic), as it's not a huge extra cost and this is a torque based platform, the ECM and the TCM work in tandem with dependencies between them, so tuning the ECM alone will not give you the best results. These credits will be locked to your VIN, so if you ever wanted to tune another vehicle, you can use the same MPVI unit but you have to buy credits for that MPVI + VIN combination, too. Credits are non-transferable to another MPVI device, nor can you resell or return them. Now, this strict credit system is somewhat unfortunate, but nearly every professional who works on the Gen V GM engine platform (LT1 or LT4) recommends HP Tuners because of its superior in-depth tuning capabilities.

here are a few pictures of the map. maybe they´ll be of interest to someone. i´ve already ordered an lt4 low pressure pump. i´ll know more soon.
whipple says this map should work on the stock fuel system. i think its more likely for the lt4 pump. |
