For the record, GM did strengthen the oil pump in 2019, but the issue didn't go away completely, it just became much less pervasive.

The fact that there's almost no failures in the 2019+ models outside of normal defect rates for any part says its fixed to me. Don't get me wrong, the Katech design is still better but the same could be said for many aftermarket parts when you start modifying a car.

I'm not much of a poster, usually a lurker trying to find out what I can about these great cars of ours. I watched the back and forths about the oil pump replacements and finally decided to bite the bullet and get it done. The shop was 8 miles away, and I don't think I took my eyes off the oil pressure gauge for more than 15 seconds all the way there. When i went to pick it up i asked for, and got, the old pump. The next day I took it apart and there was the crack, right where I read it would be. That engine was living on borrowed time. So thanks to all the contributors who saved me the cost of a new engine even if I could've found one.

Prior to failure of the outer race/ring, it was always right at 31psi and rock solid (not 30 one day or 32 the next day, for example).
