I'm speculating here but could it be that Al's departure signals that a Camaro with qualities he disagrees with is coming? It feels similar to when Tim Kuniskis left Dodge right as the EV Charger was about to be released.

I don’t think we are going to get the Camaro in the formula that we love. There is no business case for it. The Mustang is barely selling. Even if the Mustang went away and GM got 100% of the market share, I don’t think they will make enough of a profit to build a Camaro the way we (and maybe a few others who were interested in it but decided no after a test drive) like it.

Also if I’m wrong and this does happen, a 2SS will easily be 60k, and a ZL1 will probably start close to 100k. At those price points I’d rather just get a used 6th gen if I were in the market for a Camaro.

No. He wasn’t even working on team Camaro the last few years. His job was EV’s/the Hummer

7GEN Camaro requirements for minimum viable product:

1. 6.7 LS6 DPI engine option
2. Supercharged variant of 6.7 DPI engine for higher trim level
3. M6/A10 transmission options
4. 3GEN styling influences both exterior and interior
5. Z28 trim level

Bonus req: T-tops option (not that it will ever happen, but adding it anyways because I can...)

If we get a 2 door coupe I imagine it will also be offered as a 4 door sedan. To be honest if its not a 4 door electric cuv I feel like that would be a win.

Yeah, this was another problem with the earlier 6th gen years. Before they launched the LT1 trim for model year 2020, you could only get the V8 Camaro in the SS1 and SS2 trims. They were more expensive than the V8 Mustang and V8 Charger/Challenger cars. They were thousands more expensive, IIRC?


Plus Chevy ****ed up by not offering the SS2 creature comforts as options on the LT1 car. You couldn't get blind spot monitoring, you couldn't get heated/cooled seats, you couldn't get the rear view camera, etc.


It was a HUGE price jump from the LT1 to the SS2 for that stuff.


The Turbo 4 and V6 trims did not have such a huge price jump for those options.

Since it’s going to be on the CT5 chassis offering a 4 door Camaro that’s essentially a CT5 sedan will only canabalize CT5 sedan sales.

I’m sure GM learned that lesson from the badge engineering days of the 80s.

That was not the intention of the LT1 trim and most LT1 buyers didn't want those options. The selective options offered in the LT1 trim mainly addressed the base coupe's shortcomings, for example the standard smaller infotainment screen hence the option of the Tech Package(bigger screen and Bose audio). Don't like the cloth seats...Recaro option. Not a fan of alcantara...leather comes standard on the dash, steering wheel, shift knob boot, etc. The LT1 trim is a different vibe for those that want to go that route.

There was no point of "loading up" a LT1 since you would end up in the SS price range.

There was no team Camaro when he moved to GMC. In fact they started sending GM Performance parts team to Camaro Fest each year.

Highly doubtful we get a car that resembles what we already had.

That formula doesn't sell well anymore, as others have mentioned. The Mustang is a good example, Supra has been cancelled too.

Plus, most US manufacturers only make 1 car now...Ford has Mustang, Chevy has Corvette, and Dodge has Charger.

Not sure another car, let alone a V8 car, would be a feasible option for them.
