Couple of things I've often wondered.
My coolant gauge never really goes over this spot. Only if it's really hot outside, but even then it still never gets to the middle line. I assume the thermostat was taken out of the engine by the previous owner. Obviously I've never pulled it apart to look, i was just wondering if you guys have similar working areas for coolant temp.
The other thing i wondered was my brake lights will flash twice and then stay on every time i press the brake. Ive never noticed it from other camaros so i didn't know if something has been added or if it's a setting that can be adjusted. |

Temp gauge divisions make no sense... 12.5 per tick.
Just noticed non-ZL1 get battery gauge ! I think more useful than boost gauge.

All brake lights flash or just the 3rd brake light?
Usually the 3rd brake light flash is a dealer add-on/aftermarket. https://www.amazon.com/BlyilyB-12V-2...dp/B0C94VS4PF/ https://wildhammermotorsports.com/16...rness-gen5diy/ |

I think the flashing brake light is actually kind of useful. Too bad our US lighting standards lag behind most other markets. The flashing light is technically illegal here, but I see them all the time.
Newer European market cars automatically flash all the brake lights when stopping hard, but just activate normally during regular braking. https://www.capitalone.com/cars/lear...in-the-us/1959 |

People who install the flashing brake lights annoy the crap out of me. The thing ends up constantly flashing during the times when they are only lightly applying brake pressure. Distracting and dangerous to other drivers, there's a reason the law exists. We drive on roads, not race tracks.
I can see the positives if they all only activated when sudden hard brake pressure, however. As for the temp gauge, so many vehicles I've driven are like this. I more suspicious of my Ford Ranger then my Camaro. That thing just evenly heats up until it get to smack dab in the middle of the gauge, and then just doesn't move, ever. No matter how varied driving conditions can be. The Camaro I can see move up a tick and down a tick from time to time. |

IMO anything flashing needs to be reserved for specialized vehicles such as police, ambulance or fire trucks, and even then their use needs to be constrained to extraordinary circumstances. The associated cognitive input signal is so strong that allowing it on normal vehicles leads to massive fatigue as it elevates the already high visual noise floor to crazy levels. It's the visual equivalent of coal rolling or train horns.
So, I'm 100% against these and would never install one on my car either. What might be useful, though, is higher brake light intensity for more intensive brake application, but not flashing.

As to your temp question:
I think it's not abnormal. The SS has so many coolers for the track that the coolant temp doesn't get that hot just driving around town or highway at low RPM. Mine doesn't get north of 205-210 until I'm on the track with the RPM averaging 4000+ and the oil temp at 260+. Oil doesn't go above 200F until the RPM is sustained near 2000 (driving at 50-55 mph in 5th gear because it's still not quite fast enough for 6th. |

I think the coolant temp is normal.
If you didn't have a tstat, or it was stuck open, the coolant may not get to operating temp, unless you're on a road course. You'd see the temp go down noticeably after getting on a freeway due to the increased air through the radiator, especially in the winter. (I had a stuck open tstat on an old beater car and those were the characteristics I noticed.) |
