This is my favorite vehicle, and I have had at least 40 different vehicles over the years. Its awesome. I put gas in it and change the oil, and it just goes. It has 230k on it so far, with a few hundred dollars in repairs. Some may find this a little far fetched but it still has the original oil pump!!!

Here's the thing that people seem to forget when comparing reliability of Honda, Toyota, etc. to other brands. Those vehicles make jack shit for power. When you engineer an engine around low power output, they will last a LOT longer. It's simply physics and materials don't last as long the more power you make. When you're comparing those vehicles to other brands that make significantly more power, of course they will last longer.

Pretty simple really, GM released a tech bulletin specifically stating that the 2017 and 2018 model years were affected. The oil pumps were redesigned in late 2018 so the 2019+ models had the redesigned oil pump. Oil pump failures dropped to normal failure levels after that. End of story.

Now obviously this isn't a fully representative survey, but it's most likely relevant. Note also that failures weren't completely eliminated, which was highlighted by Katech in another thread; GM improved the design but didn't completely address the root cause (as usual). However, Katech's billet steel replacement seems to be bulletproof.

Oil pump failures are a GM thing really. Honda, Toyota and them don't suffer from this issue because they understand the assignment and know the importance of critical items like those, so they make them well and they design them to last the life of the vehicle, no matter how much power you mod into them. GM on the other hand likes to contract out to the lowest bidder on critical items because the shareholders are the most important thing in the world to them and then when they fail before the warranty is up they are left backpedaling trying to save face by denying claims as much as they can blaming it on the end user or by putting out a TSB acknowledging there's a problem with them but thats usually about as far as they go. Same goes for the DOD lifters that they had been putting on these darn cars. They're also junk. If anyone is capable of designing a rock solid forever car, it's actually GM. They've been in the game since the beginning and they understand engine theory and operation better than anyone is capable of knowing at this point (maybe with the exception of Ford but I digress). They just refuse to do it because you know, that wouldn't make them any money and at the end of the day they want and need more of that money.
