I really wanted to give them a little heat cycle this coming weekend at Barber so I’m ready for COTA in February, but I’m hesitant to even bring them up there as low temps will be in the 20’s. I have no experience with winter track days and tires, but I’ve read all the info I can find. Am I overthinking it?
I'm very curious if your experience will be similar to mine. I'm planning on trying them again in April and softening the suspension more. I'm positive it won't bring back to top speed issue but if I can get a better jump out of the corners maybe it negates some of that.

To redfish86:

It would be unusual to be that cold. We are having a mild winter so far. Probably lows in the 30s highs in the 50s/60s. Still you'll need to give it at least a couple of laps to warm up the tires.

I ran one session this afternoon to get a heat cycle in them. It was a cool overcast, probably 50ish degrees.

I started at 30PSI. I did one warm up lap, the proceeded to give about 7/10 for the next 15 or so minutes. Car had tons of grip (obviously). I was carrying much more speed through certain corners. I did shave 3 seconds off my PB at Barber. When I came off track, the tires were 34 both F/R passenger side, 37-38 drivers side. (Barber is tough on the left side tires)

I just wanted to get a good heat on them. I won’t touch them until we go to COTA next month.

My LF had some serious slip on the wheel

That white dot used to line up with the valve stem. RF had barely any slip at all.

Sorry, I was talking about the WX this weekend at Barber.

Thank you for the info however!

I ran these tires on Sunday at COTA. Picked up 6.5 seconds on my previous best lap. Now, to be fair, some of that is probably different coaching on my two visits. Both laps had some traffic that probably averages out. My line this past weekend is much better than what I was running back in October. Lots of rim slip on the front wheels, I’m braking much deeper and harder going into 1,11, and 12 on these tires. (175 was too early into 12 this trip; I was braking at 200 last time and was too deep several times)
