Key fob issue / alternatives

Many service sites have different people move your car using your key so at the dealership, tire store, valet parking, etc. people without instruction are in charge of your vehicle.

I have a convertable with a button that runs the top. Since many of these workers mash buttons on the fob without looking (to start the car, sound the horn, etc.) I have had the car given back to me with the top open regardless of the weather.

I really need an alternative fob or way to limit the factory fob.

Suggestions?

Here's an idea, get a new coupe-specific fob that doesn't have the top open button, program it to the car as your 3rd fob (which doesn't require reprogramming the 2 you already have), then hand that one over at the dealership.

Open the spare fob and remove all the button pads except lock.

For me. I'm a technician so when I'm walking to peoples car i will usually press release press and hold the unlock button to roll down the windows and open the sunroof. Its mainly because i dont want to smell the cigarettes/weed the customers are smoking. If it's really bad i will roll the windows down in front of them step to the car. Have a face of disgust and leave it with the windows down to air out while i work on the next car.

If the "service" fob only has lock, then they have to go to the car and press the unlock button on the handle to get in.

Thanks. I ordered another fob right after I read your post.

Got a replacement fob for not much and it works just as I needed.

BTW a good portion of programming instructions on the web are wrong or incomplete. Did find a summary similar to what is in the Camaro manual worked well.

There’s also some really good posts on here about reprogramming the FOB under different scenarios.
