Eddie 2650 tune experience?
Hey guys,
Will be working on installing the new edelbrock 2650 kit soon. I paid for their 'tune' which I assume is just a canned tune that is superimposed over my factory flash. Does anybody have experience working with them through this process? is it just as simple as this? or will they make tweaks for you depending on how the car currently sits? (seriously doubt this, but have to ask). One last thing, being somewhat green on hptuners (haltech/motec guy). If you send them your flash file that is already licensed with Hptuners - will the file received from edelbrock need to be re-licensed? Any insight is appreciated. |

In addition to the blower parts, Magnuson included a RTD. These companies "assume" you don't have a flash interface, so unless you make specific arrangements when you place your order, you might be sent this device so you can flash their tune, via the OBD2 port, to your ECM. It could be the actual tune file is IN the RTD, or (like I had to - I had to submit my VIN when I ordered the blower kit) you submit your vehicle information, they add it to the calibration, and then they email your tune. Then - you'd download the file to the RTD and flash the car. So - while I have NOT worked with Edelbrock, I'm fairly certain these are the basic scenarios you'll be facing, regarding the calibration files. I do NOT think they're going to make tweaks - if you paid for a canned cal', that's what you'll get, and it will, probably, not be optimized to your specific combination. Alternatively - you could opt to pay a shop to write a custom file for you, and that might be more than the canned calibration, but you'll get the most out of your combination that way. But - as long as your combination falls under the specific conditions of Edelbrock's calibration file, your car will most likely be completely safe, but conservative. It's a good question about re-licensing, too. I couldn't comment on that, because I've seen both. That is something you should reach out to Edelbrock (or whoever you're buying the blower kit from) to get information about. With Magnuson - the calibration file I bought included licensing the E92, so when I started writing my own tunes (I didn't say calibration, lol...), I didn't have to pay to relicense the ECM. Hopefully that makes sense. Unless the calibrator locks the file, you (as far as I've experienced) shouldn't have to re-license to write follow-up tunes. NOW - this also depends on if they are calibrating any other modules in the car (e.g. TCM, CCM), which is probably not the case, but that could be a thing, too. As an A10 car, Magnuson did not calibrate anything other than the ECM, so that's likely the case with Edelbrock. It's likely they did the minimum, as these canned tunes are, oftetimes, for CARB-type compliance, so they're going to touch the minimum, which is why, most of the time, you can custom tune these calibrations to optimize your combination. I didn't notice if you had mods' on the car, but I would expect that the calibration from them is, strictly, going to be on a completely stock car (powertrain-mod'-wise), so if you can a CAI that requires a tune, the Edelbrock cal' will NOT work (same thing for LTs, or most other bolt-ons). JMO.

You only have to license the file one time on your end.

was hoping somebody on here had some first hand experience with their calibrations and/or their human support side of things. King - thanks for clearing the credit thing up. A man of few words, but concise nonetheless. Thank you. |

NP. I like to stay concise and to the point because many don't take the time to read paragraphs these days. lol
Rad is correct. A canned tune will not work with your mods. So, you will have to get it custom tuned.

If you opt for the custom tune route, I can recommend Ted Jannetty up in CT, he is an absolute pro with decades of experience with LS and LT platforms, and a no-nonsense gentleman. See his shop at www.jannettyracing.com, he does remote tuning as well.
He tuned my car with the Maggie 2300 and all the other mods (in stages) that you see in my sig, and it's near perfect. He even sent me a free tune update (without me asking) years after me purchasing their products and tune, simply because he wants to be 100% proud of his work and said he'd learned new things in the meantime.

Boy..after researching more.. it looks like the SCT stuff is actually locked down with encryption. I can see why they would do this for CARB rating, but man.. that really handicaps the car and forces you into their ecosystem. Will probably trash that stuff and just get it tuned properly. Things aren't often as simple as they seem lol. Oh well.

Oof. Yeah, if it's SCT, I'd see if you can get a "tuner kit" from them without the SCT. Then spend the extra bucks on an HPT MPVI3 with the credits you need, and get King or Megahurtz or Ted to tune it remotely. You'll come out with a much better tune and also have the more popular GM tuning platform. I don't think anyone uses SCT for GM any longer.

Can confirm.
Joe is KingLT1 here above on the forum. Jason is Megahurtz here on the forum, or at snackbartuning.com and Ted is JannettyRacing here on the forum or at JannettyRacing.com I'd also recommend elitetuned.com with Mike or Branden Doesn't get any better than those alternatives for remote tuning a 6th gen camaro in my opinion.

Snackbartuning is who I would recommend. I am fairly competent with this platform, but Jason is more advanced than I am.
