I'd be interested to know also. I got one update after about 3 years but its been another 5 1/2 years and I would consider another. I replaced the USB outlets in the console with one from a Silverado. It had an SD card slot.

I was looking at the GM Nav Disc website. I know what you are saying, why don't I just use my phone and Google maps or Android auto. Well, I paid for a NAV system so I would like to be able to use it on occasion.

So from what I can see is GM does not offer NAV updates for the 16, 17, or 18, but offers for the 19 to 24. The difference I see is last time I updated my 16, the files were on a USB stick, but now they are on a SD card.

My questions are: Could I buy the SD card, copy it to a clean formatted USB, and then update with it? Or could I replace the USB ports in my car with one that has a SD slot, and then just insert the SD card.

Thanks.

PS trying to order the SD card, the site does not ask for my VIN number which would out me as a 16.

The new 2019+ infotainment system is completely different from MyLink 2.5 that the 2016-2018 cars have. Any SD cards you may be able to buy for the 2019+ will be useless with our older platform, even though our Silverado USB receptacles do have a (working) SD card slot.

SD cards that Here Inc. are currently selling for GM are only the physical carrier, their fitment means nothing, because the maps database and software that installs it are both 100% incompatible.

If the VIN number wasn't requested by the site, it's nice that GM moved away from VIN coding they did with the USB map update sticks we got for MyLink 2.5.

(By the way, GM always does this, you get map updates for 5 years and then they stop maintaining the outgoing platform, even though it would probably cost them pennies to just rerun some simple database updater every year (they do have the new map info for the new platforms, of course). Planned software obsolescence.)

A number of these third-party cards on Amazon now. Looking at one that states it is a 2024 NAV update for 2019-2024 Camaros, among other GM vehicles:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DRCJKRN6

Note that some of the listings for "2024" SD cards have it hidden in the listing that they only include "2023" road data... like this one, for example:

The text of the first listing instills true chinesium levels of confidence in weary readers, though
"Country of Origin: US" my behind, heh... but hey, if it works, it works. GM stopped offering any map updates for my car after 5 years like clockwork, so they can go pound sand as far as I'm concerned.

Looks like they’re avoiding legal issues, all three are spelled correct in other images but with * to avoid writing the whole names

An update - I received the first card, advertised as a "2024 version," and viewed the files and folders on my computer. Unfortunately, I am seeing data folders containing files dated in February and March of 2023. Not what I would consider a 2024 navigation data card.

I am currently running virus scans on the SD card before creating a backup image. Per the instructions on the Amazon page, the card will be VIN locked after it is installed in a car. So I will first try installing this with the files copied to a backup SD card. If that approach works, I can keep a copy of this nav data card on my laptop, for potential future use if the VIN-locked SD card in the car goes belly up at some point.

Looking forward to an update on this

I installed the card from Amazon without problem. While it may not be the latest data it has to be better than the one in my car that was installed when the car was assembled over six years ago.

The new card is not an update but a replacement as the NAV system gets it data directly from the card.
