Stolen

This sucks. Stolen while I was at work in relatively secure parking garage. It's just the worst feeling ever. I just modded the car and was enjoying it so much, and now it is gone. Does anyone have experience with this and can offer some insights into what I can expect from insurance claim process? I'm really dreading this, there is no way that they will make me whole.

What's next

F*ck man. I'm so sorry! I have no guidance just condolences.

If it was in a secure garage, think they have cameras? Maybe that'll help. I also wonder if there's video of anyone scoping your car out prior to. Doubt there's much you can do with it but I'd ask just in case.

Really sorry this happened to you, I couldn't imagine the feeling...

Did you have any anti-theft precautions in place? Club? Fake OBD-II port, kill switch? Anything? It would be good to know if you did and what (to see what they are circumventing)...

My old LT1 was stolen. Filed a police report and reported it to the insurance, gave statements, sent photos, onstar app location attempts (they pull the onstar fuse out to disable it), so basically onstar is useless.

After about ten days it was found, mostly "undamaged" painted with plastidip, bald tires, mufflers cut out. Driver was arrested and also had a gun on him.

BTW, the city of Dallas gave him just two years of probation for these crimes, even with his two other felony auto theft charges pending. I just saw today that he was arrested yet again in another county driving a stolen car, they never f'ing learn and the DA's of these cities don't give a F.

I was talking with the insurance claim agent about getting it fixed, wanted it towed to a Chevy dealership and fully repaired/etc. I think it just became too much of a task for the agent and after about 40 mins of trying to get it towed (out of impound), he basically said I should take the payout.

Payout was pretty fair, got more than I paid. I ended up with 43k, paid 37k for it, they sent payment to the bank and I picked a check up. No room to negotiate though as they use recent sales of the same model/options within a certain milage range to come up with the price. This was with Progressive insurance.

Good luck OP, you probably don't want the car back after it's been stolen, who knows how they abused it. Sucks you had mods too, the insurance won't pay you for that unfortunately.

I agree, once they beat it, you don't want it back... Take the money and run...

Austin and Dallas is the bluest parts of Texas, lol, I'd be wary of lumping all of the Texas DAs into that category....OP sorry for your loss buddy, hopefully they had cameras at the place!

So sorry to hear it, man. It's crazy how bad this is in TX and CA. I know it's happening in my area, too, but not anywhere near this level.

Best wishes on getting a great paycheck on this one. Still stinks to have to start over again, though.

What's next

Wife had her Infiniti stolen from right in front of our work at 3 in the afternoon.

We had a apple tracker in it and the police were quick enough that they were caught within a couple hours. They ended getting boxed in at a gas station and smashed her car front and rear trying to escape.

We have USAA and they were excellent with the coverage, it ended up being totaled because of the insane prices of Infiniti body panels and sensors.

They took average prices of identical vehicles in our area averaged them out, we came out pretty good and ended up buying it back as well for about $3500.

With mods on your car it really depends on your insurance and whether they will add additional value for them. If you have receipts for the work/parts I think you have a better chance.

On my Camaro USAA lets me pay for a package that will add 20% to the value of my car if it is totaled for only about $12 a month. Won't cover everything I have into it but will help.

Good luck, it does suck but hopefully your insurance will take care of you.

Well boys after a lot of debate, GT500 is looking like the next move. I loved this car and never wanted to let it go but that was not up to me, and it would kill me to do the EXACT same thing again. Anyone have/had one and have any thoughts? Anything to watch out for when purchasing? Known issues?

Sorry that happened, I can't imagine what that would feel like and I hope I never do. I picked up a small GPS unit that can easily be tucked away in a hidden spot on my car. I'd find it a freak accident/luck if it were discovered. It's the LandAirSea 54 GPS Tracker. It's a pay subscription, but it can't be disabled by unhooking the car battery and it isn't like an air tag that warns a phone that a device is present. It has a 6 month battery life, so I feel I could find the ZL1 in the event it's "misplaced".

Sorry for your loss. I picked up a 2015 GT with Roush Stage 2 blower package on it this past weekend. It's a fun little weekend car and I still have my ZL1. In regards to the GT500. My neighbor had a 2020, inside is dated, DCT transmission is meh, it's still a Ford, but they can be had for a good price these days.....and it is heavvvvvvyyyyyyyyyyyy, night and day difference between the ZL1s chassis and the dated 500s. Whatever decision you make, enjoy!

I was looking at the GT500's a while back. the inside of the car is awefully plain. Reminds me of a 90's chevy truck.

My neighbors was brand new, took me for a ride in his and it was already rattling and making noises, the camaro's is so much more refined, sure you can't see out of them but who needs to when all you see is headlights in your rear view mirror

It’s a more powerful car and stock for stock you’ll feel it’s extra power regardless of the extra weight. It’s also WAYYYYYY easier and cheaper to extract power out of it if you’re modding. No need to go into the engine and do an expensive cam swap or throw expensive fuel systems at it since ford was kind enough to give the people port and di straight out of the factory.

The predator engine is stout. Do research on the trans. I’m not saying it’s bad but with this being Ford’s first attempt at a DCT you should double check people aren’t having issues.

The chassis is inferior but if you’re just driving in a straight line that doesn’t really matter.
