So I had to be towed after a flat tire. I never felt anything. I just went flat after hitting a nail that didn’t stay in. They patched the tire and two days later I had lost 5 pounds of pressure. I took it back and they inspected it, The tire was fine, but they found a hairline fracture in the wheel on the inside. Air was escaping. He also told me the tread on the rears were at a 4! I bought the tires in November 2023. I spent four months of 2024 out with a knee surgery and the car was garaged.
I don’t “lay rubber” or intentionally smoke my tires.

Do these tires really wear that fast? All in all I’d say I used them for 14 months. I put 16,000 miles on them.

I’m going to replace the two in the rear. The ones at the front are still sevens and eights.

Is there a tire that wears longer that gets as good traction for the rear?
Not sure what caused the crack in the wheel as I’d had no issues with deflation before the flat. Tire shop said it could have been from the heat build up since the flat occurred at 75mph.

Op I also bought dws tires in November of 2023. Mine are not like that although I have significantly less miles than you. Your tires have warranty. See if you can replace them under warranty. Even though the warranty gets cut in have on staggered tires they should still be under warranty since you only have 16k on them. You just need your paper work to prove it I think.

As mentioned get your alignment checked. That being said I think continental warranties these for either 40k or 45k however as I said up top the warranty gets cut in half. You’re not that far from the 22.5k miles they state the unrotated tires will last.

Same tires as you. First square setup I got 52,000 miles on them until I went to staggered setup. Almost two years later and I just replaced them with 35,000 miles on them. Fronts were still at 7/32, rears at 5/32. Just wanted more grip all around.

Like others said check your alignment. The tires should be lasting a lot longer. And it is possible the inside gets damaged when a nail punctures and you drive on it, however slow. Happened to me but thankfully tires had warranty

I would say it is a possibility for the wheel to be damaged based on the object size/length.


Think about it, these tires have little rubber between the road surface and the wheel. A long enough object could come in contact with the inner surface of the wheel and be driven into the wheel. Continual impacts of the object while driving, no mater how slow, could cause a wheel failure. Sitting on that object on the side of the road or on the tow truck bed could cause the failure.


Think of it like a tack vs a nail in your tennis shoe or boot. The tack would not be of no consequence but a regular nail through it and your foot will let you know. Continue walking on the nail and if it did not initially puncture your foot, it probably will.

The tire wear sounds abnormal to me. Good luck with the warranty claim. You have to go through an authorized continental retailer and they are likely to report the damaged wheel.

It would be nice to see photos of this hairline crack. I'm assuming this wheel never reported low pressures (compared to the other 3) before. I have an SUV which I'm pretty sure has a bead leak in one tire. always drops a pound or two after a few weeks. Not that unusual to have bead leak due to corrosion. But cracked wheel I have never had.

Sounds abnormal. I have a 2022 Camaro SS 1LE 6-speed with Continental DWS 06+ on the factory wheels at 285/30/20 in front and 305/30/20 in rear.

I installed the tires when the car had like 800 miles on it and I am now close to 16k miles and there is still plenty of tread left. I have noticed that the rear end slides around a little more now under WOT after 2.5 years.

Note that every tire manuf halves their mileage warranty in a staggered setup.
