No cold A/C after engine clean?!
Hi all. Long story short: my a/c does not blow cold air AT ALL after the engine bay was cleaned.
Long story: 2017 SS 1LE. I left my car to be detailed inside, out and engine bay. It had to be done as they are strict on that for shipping it. I recently moved out of the country and when the car arrived I noticed no cold air was blowing. There were no issues whatsoever before that. Car has 23,000 miles. I wanted to see if anyone had any input on what to check before I take it to an A/C place. I don't trust anyone here yet, unfortunately. |

Sorry to hear of your problem. I would be trying to determine if the problem was in the compressor or duct work.
Does any air come out of the vents and if so can it be redirected by the controls? if not could be a sticking problem with the airbox in the dash. It may loosen up after a while. (I had this problem on my Silverado after sitting for a year). Does the A/C compressor kick on? Lower the temp to maximum and check it kicks on. Look up the fuses in your owner's manual or online search and make sure they are good depending on what's not working. Also, check for loose or missing connectors. Beyond that you'll probably need an expert. Good Luck! |

Ok thanks, that helps to at least start with something. It does blow air and can be redirected. The fuses look good too. I'll check on the other stuff and start looking for some expert help after. Thanks again.

Our systems are r1234yf, so it is a bit hard to check performance under the hood. other systems you can just feel the suction line to see if it gets cold. Not possible on r1234 because there is a heat exchange tube (IHX). I would get a probe thermometer and pop it in the center duct. r1234 systems should get down to about 50 degrees F duct temp, but not much colder even on max. If your car is 90 and the duct is 90 your system is not kicking on. If car is 90 and duct is 70, you have lost some refrigerant. This is what you want. Put it in the duct and leave it there until you are happy system is working: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0747CJDHG...hlbWF0aWM&th=1 EDIT: I looked it up. We have a single dual mode switch that covers both low and high pressure. Last edited by ctrlz; 09-05-2024 at 10:03 AM. |
