Is the Lt4 blower worth it (on LT1)

I am starting to shop around for boost and I see a lot of people have gone with an lt4 blower on the lt1, is it still worth it given the other after market kits that have come out for the lt1 platform like a whipple or a procharger? I know it’s more of a “budget” option but from what I see it’s nearly the same price as a kit for the lt1 motor?

Depends on your power goals. If you want to make 550-600 WHP for $5K-$6K then it’s probably the way to go. The Whipple/Maggie kits are complete, offer superior cooling, and much more headroom for power down the road…

With stock LT1 pistons, the LT4 blower conversion is the most bang for the buck you can get. Swap in LT4 fuel parts as well so you can run ethanol blends and keep power in the car safely. I've tuned a few of these setups and the sweet spot seems to be E50-E60 with a 2.4 upper pulley on the LT4 blower. This will get you around 8-9psi, which is the max I would run on stock pistons if you can get ethanol or run meth. If you only have pump gas then I would stick to 7psi or so.

The bigger blowers are nice but take more torque to spin and the stock LT1 pistons can't handle the amount of power the aftermarket blowers can make in their sweet spot.

If the pump gas is 93 Octane (not 91), can I get away with 8 PSI boost as well?

You can do anything! But how long will it live?

You would really have to back the timing down on it but it should be ok.

Adding ~200 CHP to the car dramatically increases the associated smiles!

Ideally I’m going for 700 sbe, I’m already at 514 fbo cam on pump E so I was hoping to be at 7-8lbs and make just about 700, at the price point of an lt4 blower swap, wouldn’t it just be better to go with a whipple or Maggie if I want a pd blower?

Back when I bought my car new, I actually bought a take off LT4 blower. But once I did my homework, I never installed it, bought a Whipple and never looked back. So that’s my take lol

This is the key question here.
Longevity and reliability is my top priority and I am willing to forgo some WHPs for that.
So, for 8 PSI (This is what my lower SC ring on the ATI damper-pulley is sized for, slightly smaller - I am not using the stock LT4 pulley).
What is the max recommended timing advance I can safely live with on 93 pump?
Weather conditions similar to S.Florida... ~ 95-105F ambient with high humidity.

No to pump gas. Yes to a blend of Ethanol. I have been running 9-11psi since 2019 on my stock long block LT1. The bottom line is if you have to reduce engine timing 50% just to run 7-8psi of boost then you have too much compression for the fuel you are trying to run. Don't know how many different ways I can say it...I guess I could try different languages?

What fuel system did you go with? Just the lt4 stuff or port injection? When I boost it I have full intention of going on pump E

LPE HPFP, XDI +30, LT4 low side with JMS...I run E60. I usually pump 10 gallons of E80 and mix 3 gallons of pump gas to get that blend. I could run more E but it's not worth running the fuel system on edge for little gain.

I don't recommend anything you've considered so far.
